If I were the Broncos

Here's some McBoog insanity for ya'alls.

If I were the Broncos, I would pay that price to get Turner from the Chargers.

First, with the addition of Bly and the suspected addition of free-agent defensive end Patrick Kerney (who is considered the top rush end available, and his presence would significantly upgrade the Broncos' pass rush) their D is now as good if not better than the Chargers.

Their big questionmark, imho, is offense. They still have the kid at QB (with a half year of excellent experience) and an o-line that is suspect in pass protection up the middle (they are a smallish line and get pushed around, hence the need to roll out, etc.) They need a RB that will put the middle of defenses on their heels.

I have believed for a while that Turner would fit the Kubiac O in Houston perfectly. Turner is a one-cut and go type player, reads the space incredibly and has the speed to turn a gaff into a big play. Given this, he would then fit the Broncos even better since it is the same O with better players.

Signing Turner would help the Broncos two-fold. Picking at number 21, is there really a RB in the draft that can come in and have the same impact that Turner would? The proven skill set plus the NFL experience, I feel is worth it to the Broncos at #21.

Losing the #3 can be made up in other areas. The signing of Kerney would almost, if not more than justify the #3 going to San Diego. By giving up a #3, the Broncos take a huge step in badly hurting a division rival. The depth in case of an LT injury is now questionable AND LTs ability to stay fresh throughout the season with the breaks and mop up duties is hurt as well.

Add to this (if they were to risk him in this capacity) he is an excellent return man. This further both helps the Broncos and hurts the Chargers (since the Chargers now have to find another return man).

By getting a perfect RB in their system while damaging a division rival, I think this is a rare case where you might consider pulling the trigger on a 1st/3rd tender guy.

The only thing that I see kills this deal is how you/the Broncos feel about AJ Smith. He seems to be one of the best talent evaluators in the League, at least top three, and do you want to give him, a division rival, two extra day-one picks in the draft?

As a Charger fan, I would hate to see this happen on every level except the draft picks. Any other team but the Broncos and I take the picks happily. But I think it is a loser deal for the Chargers if the Broncos steal Turner away. The Broncos in my mind become the co-favorite or even favorite to win the division with Turner in their backfield. What other back could they add that would have the same impact? Free agent or drafting at #21, I say none.

Any thoughts :D ?

Just my :tup::D:doh:

LOL, a couple work friends of mine were going through all the scenerios of what the Broncos could do to add to their weak backfield. One thinks they will/should give up whatever it takes to get Peterson in the draft. I think they should go after Thomas Jones. And then were were speculating what other backs they could add, Lynch, Bush or Pittman in the draft.

Sucks as a Chiefs fan to be thinking about what the Broncos could should do to become instant Super Bowl contenders. We all took a step back and LOL and said, wait a second why are we even talking about the Broncos......we hate them! Well the reason is because they seem to be active every off season making the necessary moves to improve their team, trading players, picks....whatever it takes......something King Carl would never do or almost never does.....and it gets really frustrating as a fan :D

Oh and as far as Turner goes, yes that all makes sense and would seem like a perfect fit. One question.....why are YOU as a Chargers fan thinking about ways that the Broncos can improve their back field and or cripple your home town team? Just curious, is it because of the trade that went down yesterday....or more on the lines of our thinking?

IMO RB is the one position that a rookie can come in and have immediate impact. Shanny needs to be careful as he's always grabbing veterans, but needs to make sure that there is a youth movement as well. A 1st and 3rd is a huge price to pay for one RB. I just don't see Denver doing that. Shanny is not affraid to go after specific players in the draft. I expect that they will end up with T. Jones and solve some of their problems.

I think that's a terrible idea.

First off, how much is DEN damaging SD by taking its backup RB? Turner is talented, no doubt, but his role is limited to the extreme by Tomlinson.

Secondly, why would a team like DEN give up a 1st & 3rd - which helps SD immediately with impact rookie help - when it can draft a RB with a 2nd round or one of the 3rd round picks, or pick up a solid RB in FA to pair with M Bell, and use the 1st round pick for help elsewhere (like the friggin' D line, huh, Mike?). There are some pretty solid RBs who will drop that far & fit into the DEN system well.

And as far as Turner helpng the DEN return game? How many starting RBs do you think also return kicks in the NFL? :D

DEN going after Turner does nothing but benefit SD.

To know your "enemy" is to know yourself. I may not be as un-objective as you may think. I am a fan of the NFL first.

To be honest, I don't think this would ever happen. I agree that it would not be a good idea for any other team in the NFL, but given the dynamic between the AFC West rivals, it is the only scenario that I can see where ANY team could consider making that kind of move. Like I said, pure conjecture!

Also, the ramifications that the Broncos would have to face with their fans IF the Chrager pulled a couple of pro-bowlers (like they did with the Manning-Rivers trade) would be huge considering the diviion rival that they "helped". I just thought it was kind of fun to think this one out :D

As for Turner returning kicks for Denver, I realize that as the starter, that would only be in an emergency role. I bring that aspect up in his game to illustrate the further impact it has on the Bolts in a negative way since he is, in fact, the kick reterner.

Id draft Fosters replacement first, then in round 2 take Pittman or Irons.

CB - Fixed - sorta, Bly will prove to be a liability, and Champ will never see a pass now

OL, improved - 1st round pick

RB - improved - Pittman or Irons

You'll never see DEN take an O-lineman with a 1st round pick as long as Shanahan is around. Besides, there are plenty of guys who can sit on the bench as well as Foster. Lepsis will man the LT, either Meadows or Pears will man the RT. OT is not a matter of immediate concern.

Pittman or Irons is absolutely a reasonable guess for a 2nd round pick.

Just to add to the discussion of Turner being a return specialist. Anyone who follows the Broncos knows that they typically ignore special teams. I think Shanny's idea of a kickoff return is to have the guy: 1. Catch the ball, and 2. Run straight ahead until tackled. To me, they don't seem to have any kind of blocking scheme, or a plan, or any idea of what to do.

Either way, to part with a #1 and a #3 for somebody else's BACKUP running back is beyond the realm of insanity.

Hell they may even prefer Darius Walker in round 3, and draft a #2 WR in round 2

Walker would be a great pick IMO.Hasn't been much fanfare about this kid but I think he will be a fine NFL back.I would be happy to see him go to the Packers.
