Not much on the Panther front.

They have backed off restructuring Peppers contract, most likely the bite later would be worse than the bite vs the cap this season....so Jules will get his 15 mill this year. Mike Whale restructured to free up 1.3 mill more which should put Carolina around????11-13 mill under the cap I believe.

Hurney has made it clear that the Panthers will not be that active in FA this year( nor did they plan to be), as they are planning for the draft. So, the 10-12 mill they have gotten under the cap will be (90%)used for the signing of draft picks.

Also, as I expected, they are gonna just try again, same players with new starters at some positions, with a different offensive scheme. They have signed/resigned 21 of 22 starters from a year ago. James Anderson will replace Diggs at WLB, Stanley McGlover at DE opposite Jules, and as I expected Michael Gaines will now be the starting TE. Shaun Williams was released, the only starter not returning. The focus does seem to be on S in April and Nelson or Landry should be there at 14.

So Diggs was signed as a backup or will there be open competition?

Did not Anderson draw comparisons to the departed Witherspoon :D

I remember him saying they are different but carry a pretty equal skill set. He thought at the time Anderson would do well replacing Spoon. I can't find the article now.

..also, Smitty is due a new contract(they are going to redo the old one). So, it makes alot of sense to me now....they got it to where Jules needed no restructuring and will get his 15 mill this year..ala Peppers is happy, and Smitty gets anew deal and more $$ as well-leaving enough for the draft picks. Which does make sense to keep your two best players happy.
