Sammy Morris a Patriot

heard it on the way home today in the car. Morris apparently will play every third series, with Maroney playing the other two. Kevin Faulk will remain the 3rd-down RB.

And just when Maroney owners thought they might have had a stud to carry the full load :D

I think it's a little early for someone to be saying exactly how many carries a guy is going to get. I like the signing, but I don't see him getting 1/3 of the carries.

Contract terms were undisclosed, but he was asking for decent money.

While it is all speculation, I can't see the Pats spending decent $$$ unless they planned to use him accordingly.

The patriots who normally do not spend a lot in FA have missed the SB the last 2 years now. The Pats are pulling out all the stops.

Personally I seem Morris as a 3 down/Goal lines back and Maroney as the 20 to 20 guy. Or at least that would be the link of thought before training camp anyways.

That would seem logical, but Adam Caplan re-iterated on Sirius that his sources told him that Kevin Faulk would remain the 3rd-down back, and Morris would receive his fair-share of the rock.

I still see Maroney as a 20-carry guy, very similar to last year, but any hope of him approaching the 25-30 carries that LJ/LT2/etc gets seems out the window (which I think is what many Maroney owners were hoping when Dillon was released)

Fantasy wise, I agree this hurts Maroney's value a little. But as a Pats fan, I think it's a great signing. I hate to admit it, but Maroney didn't look ready for 25-30 carries. His playoff performances had me a little concerned about his ability to handle the full load. I still have high hopes for him, but at least now we have a good insurance policy in Sammy Morris.
