Donutrun Jellies
Soooo, the instructor at a seminar used "Steak & Shake" as a corporate example and I've never been to one (none of them up here in the northeast) ... Now, I'm headed to Fort Myers to watch the elder munchkin play in a college softball tournament and I'm wondering if "Steak & Shake" is worth a visit ... Thoughts? Is their burger better? Muggsy
If you're going to be in Ft. Myers, check out the Sandy Hook Fish & Rib House on Pine Island Road(S.R. 78) between Cape Coral and Pine Island, the place doesn't look like much from the outside but the food is fantastic. Bier Meister
been to steak-n-shake once... i liked it. i guess the big question is how close will it be to you? i wouldn't go 30 miles for it, but more like 15-20 minutes.

One just opened about 10 minutes from my house. I've been told they're pretty similar to Culver's (Midwest franchise specializing in frozen custard and butterburgers), which is not a bad thing in the least. Bier Meister
it wouldn't disappoint me if one opened nearby 3 weeks ago got bloodwork back and i had high cholesterol.... so cut out most of the stuff i love.... we'll see in 3 weeks how effective i am. i definitely am missing burgers, fries, etc
Chief Dick
Stake and Shake = good. Good malts and shakes, good burgers. They used to have great fries cause they made them different than your standard fast food fry.

I would say they are not as good as Culvers, but pretty close. Culver's just started coming here a couple of years ago. Pricey, but worth it. Fries are generally the worst thing for you at fast-food restaurants (excepting Culver's, which serves deep-fried cheese curds) in terms of both cholesterol and preservatives. TDFFFreak
Their burgers are pretty good. What I like about the S&S is the cheapness of it while still able to have a sitdown meal. Gluttony, thy name is Steak & Shake.

S&S apprear more concentrated on the burgers and more side items than Culvers. Culvers is better on the shakes as it seems S&S are more pre-mixed formulas and Culvers has more choices in this end. There are quite a few in St. Louis...I'm sure Twiley can add to the thread.
wiegie
or drunken munchies food. bingo (but it's not as though the food requires you to be drunk to think that the food is good)
Dutch Oven
My grampa used to take me there all the time in KC. Good food, better memories.
Sugar Magnolia
I guess I'm in the minority. I was never a big fan of S&S. When I was in my early 20's I was a general manager of two retail stores. One had a S&S across the street and the other a McDonalds next door. I ate at either 5 days a week for two years-oh yeah then a Wendys opened up a few doors up from McDonalds for a change of pace. I really prefered Mc D's over S&S but eating this crap for two years probably took 2 years off my life.
Azazello1313
steak n' shake is pretty solid greasebomb type food. i'd definitely eat there from time to time if they had them here.
twiley
I guess it's worth a visit. They're all over St. Louis so I guess we take them for granted. I usually get the double steakburger with fries. Don't expect some hugh thick burger because they're relatively thin. The fries are like toothpicks which some people love or hate. I like them. Swampnuts
I've never been a big fan. The shakes are good, try the chocolate banana one. Twiley is right on about the thin burgers, they are pretty greasy and not a lot to them. A S/S double is like most place's singles. The skinny fries are good though. loaf
loves me some steak and shake. It'll be about $10/person if you get a platter and shake
Def.
When I hitup S&S its for 1 thing, the Frisco Patty Melt. Its heart-stopping goodness. Occassionally I like a shake and they have the best Onion Rings I can find around the Aurora, IL. area.
