McBoog
The Vikes should have done what a division rival has done and drafted like 13 WR in the first round. Then this wouldn't be a problem at all!

The Next Generation
How the hell was he supposed to break into the lineup those years with Todd Pinkston and Freddie Mitchell ahead of him? That's a good one!
Chadman
Looks like we can add Bobby Wade to this esteemed list. Coach Brad Childress said he envisions Wade as a slot receiver and said that Wade also wants to be involved in the kickoff and punt return teams. What was your favorite Travis Taylor moment? BillyBalata
What was your favorite Travis Taylor moment? When they decided not to resign him? Actually, I think he had his moments with the Vikes. Seemed to have the surest hands of the bunch last year. That's not saying a whole lot...

You know, I can honestly say that I would have rather seen the Vikings just draft 6 rookie WR's than to waste any time and money on the losers that they have signed as fillers at that position. Avernus
McMullen had more catches and the same number of TD's than Baskett this year. on a team with worse WR's than the Eagles have...he clearly had more playing time... plus Baskett was a rookie compared to McMullen who has been with Childress his entire career... Avernus
Vikings needed a WR in FA and a WR in the draft... when the Eagles let Greg Lewis go...the Vikings probably will pick him up

Well, at least Wilf is following through on doing anything and everything to improve the team. Who needs to spend the reported $25 million of still remaining cap space when you can just go get cheap bodies to fill the perfect system? But at the same time, you don't see Donald Trump buying everything at a garage sale just because he has money in the bank. This free agent class is NOT good and the Vikings probably don't have the team to get a title this year, so let the players play and evaluate talent. If there are players they like on the current team, they can sign them to extensions and use most of the cap space to apply to this year so they don't use up future cap space. This will allow them to use the money next year when the free agent crop is much better.
Outshined
I really don't understand all the hatred towards Brad Childress. The lack of offense in Minnesota has been festering since 2000. The team was happy with the high powered offense of Randy Moss and Daunte Culpepper for years. The focus was drafting defense. Lets breakdown the Minnesota Vikings drafts since 2000. They haven't drafted a position player in the 1st or second round and any others they did are no longer with the team with the exception Troy Williamson. In 2004 they trade away our best playmaker on offense. Nobody in the lineup was able to fill those shoes. The end result was a struggle at QB. This team is in desperate need of a playmaker, somebody who will open up the offense. Hopefully they will get this player in this years draft. 2005 1 Troy Williamson* WR2 Marcus Johnson* T4 Ciatrick Fason* RB 20044 Nat Dorsey T4 Mewelde Moore* RB7 Jeff Dugan* TE 2003 3 Nate Burleson WR4 Onterrio Smith RB7 Keenan Howry WR2002 1 Bryant McKinnie+* T4 Edward Ta'amu G2001 1 Michael Bennett RB4 Cedric James WR7 Brian Crawford T 2000 3 Doug Chapman RB5 Troy Walters WR7 Mike Malano C7 Giles Cole TE7 Lewis Kelly G+ Starter * Still on the team Let looks at the starting WR stats since 2005 and Robinson in 04. I think the stats speak for themselves. Only 2 games did our receivers get over 100 yards. Travis Taylor 2006 Games over 100 yards receiving: 0 Games over 50 yards receiving: 6 Actually caught more passes this year than previous years 2005 Games over 100 yards receiving: 0 Games over 50 yards receiving: 4 Marcus Robinson 2006 Games over 100 yards receiving: 0 Games over 50 yards receiving: 3 Missed 5 games due to injury 2005 Games over 100 yards receiving: 0 Games over 50 yards receiving: 3 2004 Games over 100 yards receiving: 1 Games over 50 yards receiving: 5 Troy Williamson 2006 Games over 100 yards receiving: 1 Games over 50 yards receiving: 2 2005 Games over 100 yards receiving: 0 Games over 50 yards receiving:
Ursa Majoris
Good stuff. Commenting on the 100 yard receiving games, or lack thereof, it's worth noting that no receiver is going to have many of those when the offensive game plan involves Chester Taylor running left twice, one 3 yard dump off, punt. Who needs to spend the reported $25 million of still remaining cap space when you can just go get cheap bodies to fill the perfect system? I wish you'd make up your mind. On one hand you complain we're signing cheap bodies, on the other you complain we over paid for Shiancoe and Wade. I'd still like to hear who we should have spent all this money on. Do you really think we should have made Graham the highest paid TE in the NFL? Should we have paid Drew Bennett 6 mill a year? I would have liked to see them sign Kevin Curtis, we did offer him the same amount of money the Eagles did, from what I heard...but that dam Childress never followed Andy Rieds example and became a Morman, so I guess we can blame him for losing out on that signing. Granted, the players we have signed won't make a person jump up and down with glee. But I fail to see what the hell they have missed out on by not running out and spending tons of money just because they have it.

I think that might change. The receivers we had coudn't get open, so your options were Jermaine Wiggins and Chester Taylor. Jermaine Wiggins was too fat and slow to stretch the field. We now have Shiancoe who is an upgrade. I find this article from ESPN kinda of funny: I don't think Wiggins was a key loss... http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2836088 Key additions The Vikings didn't sign any real impact players in the free-agent market. However, the addition of backup TE Visanthe Shiancoe (Giants) was somewhat intriguing based on his size and vertical speed. He should bring a unique dimension to Brad Childress' West Coast passing attack. Key losses Backup TE Jermaine Wiggins (Jaguars) had been an effective receiver in the short, underneath passing game over the last few seasons. Green Bay fans are acting the same way - they cry when the team overpays, and then cry when it doesn't do anything. But in the market the past couple years, those were your options. I'd rather my team didn't overpay for so-so players; if that means appearing to sit on your hands, so be it.

From Chris Carter after he hosted a rookie WR camp in 2003: "(Cortez) Hankton's speed, route running, hands and unadulterated strength is going to catapult him into (the NFL). He has the tools to bring him to an elite receiver in the NFL." I guess Minnesota listens to Chris Carter.
