Filling their need for a proven tailback, the Denver Broncos on Monday reached a contract agreement with Travis Henry, who was released on Saturday by the Tenenessee Titans to avoid paying him an $8.3 million roster bonus.

Henry will sign a five-year contract that includes $12 million in guarantees.

Within hours of his release, Henry flew to Denver and visited with Broncos officials over the weekend, while agent Hadley Engelhard negotiated a deal. Henry also drew considerable interest from the Oakland Raiders, who hoped to bring him in for a visit this week.

Henry, 28, carried 270 times for 1,211 yards and seven touchdowns in 2006, and notched six 100-yard outings. The former University of Tennessee standout spent the first four years of his career with the Buffalo Bills before being traded to the Titans in 2005.

In 78 games, including 62 starts, Henry has carried 1,321 times for 5,395 yards and 34 touchdowns. He also has 134 receptions for 886 yards and two scores. In addition to his 1,000-yard season in 2006, Henry ran for over 1,000 yards in two of his four seasons with the Bills.

Wow, this should be incredibly interesting to see shake out. I know the DEN coaching staff is high on M Bell's potential. Henry has had 2 325+ carry seasons previously, but hasn't passed 270 carries in the past 3 seasons.

DEN's top RB group has averaged 417 carries the past 5 years (since TD retired). I'd say whomever stands out between Henry & M Bell ought to get in the neighborhood of 270 carries with 145 left for the other guy - unless one guy really stands out - which I'm guessing Henry has a better chance of. Then the split would probably go to 310/110 or something along those lines - Shanahan will use a stud RB a ton if he has one.

Then there's still the upcoming draft...

If he's "The Man" in Denver, he has the potential to be a solid #1 IMHO. Look at all the RBBC's out there thus far.

I agree. in Denvers offense I can easily see him finishing as 1 of the top 3 or 4 backs next year if he stays healthy and is the feature guy(which I expect him to be).

:D this will be another situation where one week henry starts and the next week bell starts, then the next week it's a coin toss right before kick off.

Stay away from denver backs if you can help it.

If Mike Bell was any good he would of took the job last year whe he had no competition.

IMO Mike Bell is now a backup.

:D how much more would oakland have had to pay him for henry to go there? hmm, which system do i want to play in? which line would i rather run behind? :D as far as bidding for free agent RBs, al davis may as well be sitting on a bunch of candian $$.

I hope someone in our league drafts him in that spot on the same speculation, and Westbrook/Alexander/Portis/Gore falls to me.

I did not say I would draft him that high my silly friend. I said I could easily see him finishing as a top 3 or 4 back. I can say the same thing about a number of RB's that are gonna be out there next year.

so what about White ? is he going to be the starter now in Tenn?

:D

He's all TEN has left. C Brown was pretty much run off. Henry now is history. They had better find out that White is the real deal, or they may have set back a rising franchise by about 2-3 years.

TEN is scrapping all of its vets at the skill positions, starting last year with McNair & Volek, and through RBs Brown & Henry & WR Bennett this year. That's awfully ballsy with a team that had shown dramatic improvement by the end of the year last year. There's virtually no vet leadership on the O side of the ball at all.

McNair and Volek had to go. Bennett was serviceable but not worth what the Rams paid. Brown cant stay healthy. The only HUGH loss out of the bunch was Henry. I think they would have liked to have re-signed Cheese, but no way could they pay the $8M roster bonus. It just wasnt going to happen. So, Denver gets a running back who isnt big, isnt fast, doesnt have a whole lot of moves, but simply cant be tackled. He turns every 1 yard run into a 4 yarder; every 2 yard loss into a 2 yard gain. The first guy never tackles Henry. Never! He is built like a fire plug and is strong as a bull. I watched him at the Univ of Tennessee and followed his career pretty closely in the pro's. Everytime you think he is tackled, he finds someway to get more yards. I have not seen a guy quite like him in terms of getting the absolute most out of his talent.

This was a very nice pick up by the Broncos. You will definitely like watching this guy run the ball in Denver.
