Trent Green out of KC?

Looks like Huard signed that 3yr deal for a reason. He might be the Chiefs' starting QB this season after all. :D

I dunno he might restructure. He isn't about to get a signing for big money anywhere anyway and odds of him going to a team w/a better chance than KC of going to the SB aren't good (not that I'm holding my breath about that either).

KC's Green has optionsposted: Tuesday, March 6, 2007 | Print Entry

After meeting with Chiefs president Carl Peterson, quarterback Trent Green started looking for trade options. Expect one to happen. At least two or three teams have checked in on him so there appears to be enough interest in him to merit a trade.

The Dolphins are just one of the teams. Others aren't known.

Green needs to get out of Kansas City because of the transition that is beginning at the quarterback position. Damon Huard re-signed for three years but the quarterback of the future is Brodie Croyle. The plan is for Croyle to be ready to start by 2008, but for that to happen he needs to be the backup this year. What that means for Green is he can either start or be the No. 3.

Can someone explain the love for Croyle and this "plan?" He has possibilities but hasn't proven a thing....meanwhile Huard has looked pretty $%# good.

Not sure what you mean by "love". Croyle wants to be the starter, he wants to be a starting NFL QB. The team liked his upside and drafted him.....with the hopes he'd be the QB of the future, you can't find out unless you play him. From what I've heard he's got a hell of an arm, is smart and just needs the experience to succeed. A lot of people are down on him before he's even been given the chance to play. How can these people say he isn't the answer....nobody knows anything about his capabilities yet. I for one would like to find out sooner than later. Huard will start and Croyle will be the backup, the job will be Croyles to win/lose in 2008.

I heard guys on the NFL Network speculate that he could go to DET to reunite w/ Martz (Green was the starting QB in STL before he got hurt and Warner took over).

This line of thinking made me wonder if he could maybe go to WAS to reunite w/ Saunders and/or mentor Jason Campbell for a year or two...

I agree w/ you ... but, if he could be (say) the starter in WAS vs. in a competition w/ Huard ... AND ... make 2-5x what he'd make in KC, he may make the move.

It sorta depends on the severity of the restructuring Peterson is proposing...

If Green can't find a trading partner, he can certainly return and compete against Huard for a starting job with a reduced salary. Expect him to be gone.

Who fits the Bills? The Bills continued to escalate their effort to replace Willis McGahee, who is being shopped in a trade. On Tuesday, they looked at Dominic Rhodes. On Wednesday, it will be Chris Brown of the Titans. It's pretty clear it's going to be hard for the Bills to get more than a third-round choice for McGahee, but they may just have to make the trade anyway. The Ravens apparently are interested if they can't re-sign Jamal Lewis.

Bengals end run: Reggie Kelly re-signed with the Bengals Tuesday night, agreeing to a three-year, $9 million contract. Bengals coach Marv Lewis can credit his quarterback, Carson Palmer, for the save. Palmer kept calling Kelly and telling him how important it was for him to return. Palmer also probably talked with ownership to make sure the Bengals offer was fair. The Bengals' $3 million-per-year offer was the best Kelly had even though he had several interested teams.

Flying Fish land Porter: The Dolphins certainly know how to fly under the radar to make a big deal. Using Wayne Huizenga's private jet, the Dolphins brass flew to Bakersfield, Calif., to hold a secret meeting on Sunday with former Steelers linebacker Joey Porter. Porter was going to start making a tour of interested teams starting Tuesday. The Dolphins made him an offer he couldn't refuse on Monday -- a five-year, $32 million deal that includes $20 million in guarantees. The strategy worked and now the Dolphins have one of the league's most feared 3-4 rush linebackers in Porter to complement Jason Taylor.

In other Dolphins news, the team looked at Giants kicker Jay Feeley on Tuesday, suggesting they might be ready to move kicker Olinda Mare in a trade.

Pitt pursues punter: The Steelers gave 49ers punter Andy Lee a six-year, $7.1 million offer sheet with the hopes of landing him. That's a manageable number for the 49ers, who have the most cap room in the league. The question is how much they value Lee as a punter. There are no poison pills in the deal.

Raiders on center: The Raiders signed 49ers center Jeremy Newberry to a one-year, $1.5 million contract to give them some depth at the position. They aren't completely sold on Jake Grove and don't want to go to Adam Treu, the deep snapper, if Grove struggles or gets hurt. Now, the Raiders have to look for a right tackle to replace Langston Walker, who left for the Bills. They will look at Jordan Black of the Chiefs.

That's pretty much all I'm saying. Just get the impression from a lot of people that he should be starting. Why? Huard is getting up there but has low mileage and looks good, so why not start him and let Croyle in the wings?

In Oakland everyone would beat him on every play. I like Trent and wouldn't like to see that.

How about Da Bears?

I'm talking about Jordan Black getting burnt by Hali, not Trent getting a beat down.

Our OL was decimated last year.

Green is (probably) gone this year.

Gonzo will (probably only) be highly productive for only another 1-3 years.

Larry Johnson will (probably) be run into the ground in the span of the next 3-5 years because Herm Edwards doesn't know how to use a RB.

...barring something wonderful happening in the draft, the Chiefs are on a collision course for not having to trade up to get a top 5-10 pick for several years in a row here coming up...

Nah, they will always be 8-8 to 10-6 under Peterson. Just good enough to fill the seats, never good enough to do anything worthwhile.
