myhousekey
http://www.nola.com/saints/t-p/index.ssf?/...6120.xml&coll=1 The Saints and cornerback Fred Thomas agreed to restructure the final year of his contract, keeping him in New Orleans for the 2007 season, General Manager Mickey Loomis confirmed Tuesday. Thomas, 33, was scheduled to earn $3 million in salary and bonuses this season. He agreed to reduce that figure by about $800,000, according to a league source. Thomas could not be reached for comment. I'm not the biggest Thomas fan in the world (gave up way too many big plays) but I think I'm ok with the Saints resigning him for less money. There's no guarantee we can land any of the other FA CB's in the market so I think the safe move is to sign him and then still keep looking. Even if you don't sign a FA CB player like Hood or James, this gives you the option to draft a raw young CB and groom him for a year before he has to step in full time. slickvick
Thomas probably had no option but to take a pay cut.He had a rough time last season and was toasted repeatedly.Probably figured take the cut or take the door out of New Orleans. Bronco Billy
How does this guy still have a job? Pictures of Benson w/ livestock?
rajncajn
I'm actually glad he's back. I can say at least a few of the times he got burned was when he should have had safety help. His is definately past his prime, but I'm glad he wanted to finish a good career with the Saints.
BOO
Agreed Rajn. He has heart (remember the games he played with that big q-tip looking cast on his hand), but has lost a step or two along with horrible ball recognition skills. I'd like to keep him as a nickel/dime corner, but we still need someone opposite McKenzie.
