HowboutthemCowboys
The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed restricted free agent punter Andy Lee to an offer sheet, the team announced today. The San Francisco 49ers have seven days to match the offer sheet by the Steelers. If the 49ers do not match the offer, Pittsburgh has to give its sixth-round pick in this year's NFL Draft to San Francisco in return. Lee was originally drafted by the 49ers in the sixth round (188th overall) of the 2004 Draft out of Pitt. He averaged a career-high 44.8 yards per punt in 2006, ranking sixth in the NFC and seventh in the NFL. Lee had 81 punts for 3,625 yards this past season. At Pitt, Lee became the only player in Big East Conference history to be named league Special Teams Player of the Year twice and ranks first in school history in career punts (244) and second in yardage Edited March 8, 2007 by HowboutthemCowboys
max
I read this last night and thought that this was not exactly the type of addition I was looking for the Steelers to make.
HowboutthemCowboys
what happened to Gardocki? And why would you give a 6th rounder for a punter?

max
the 49ers matched the offer sheet.. so no lee and no new FAs so far. a typical thrilling steelers offseason lol. Did they really match it? I didnt know thet. On the postgazete.com they have the details of what the Steelers offerred him (pasted below). IMO San Fran would be even more foolish to match it than the Steelers were in making the offer in the first place. Pittsburgh Steelers Steelers' offer to punter Lee revealed Wednesday, March 07, 2007 By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette The offer sheet that punter Andy Lee signed with the Steelers on Tuesday is for a reported $7.1 million over six years that includes a $1.66 million signing bonus. Since Lee is a restricted free agent, the San Francisco 49ers have until next Tuesday to either match the offer and retain him or to pass on it and receive a sixth-round draft choice from the Steelers in return. The contract did not include a so-called "poison pill" clause that would make it hard for San Francisco to match.
