I have Klopf in a dynasty, guess his PT chances just got lowered significantly.

...and, to think...they drafted both of these guys early last year, didn't they?

Pretty much. I'll need to do some research on this to see the justification for McMichael. Klop seemed to be really coming around last season and Byrd showed some promise the last few games. But after further research my guess is that Byrd is gone.

“This has been in the works for a while,” Rams head coach Scott Linehan said in a statement. “We even considered trading for him. He is an every-down tight end and a proven starter in the league. He does a lot of things well.”

League sources say his three-year deal with the Rams is worth about $3 million per year.

McMichael played for Scott Linehan in 2005 when Linehan was offensive coordinator for the Dolphins.

His signing comes just days after tight end Dominique Byrd was arrested on suspicion of DUI in Los Angeles.

McMichael joins a crowded group at tight end that includes second-year players Joe Klopfenstein and Dominique Byrd as well as veteran Aaron Walker. Only three of those players are likely to stick and it’s doubtful that Klopfenstein is going anywhere anytime soon.

The signing of McMichael is the second big addition to the offense this offseason and gives the Rams an impressive array of pass catching talent that includes receivers Isaac Bruce, Torry Holt and Bennett, running back Steven Jackson and Klopfenstein and McMichael.

While any offensive needs appear to have been addressed (with the exception of more help at running back), the Rams are likely to turn their attention to defense in the coming days and weeks.

The more I think about this the more I like this move. This should allow less coverage on Holt and Bruce and give Bulger better options down the field. This should also benefit Jackson as well. Granted the defense still blows but this could be a very potent offense now. You put all four of those guys out there and still have Jackson in the backfield... whoa.

With so many holes, I'm not sure if I would like this signing as a Rams fan. As a Hawk homer, I would be lying if I said this made me any more afraid of the Rams. Unless they improve that defense or O-line, they are quickly headed to the bottom of the division.
