DO Jaded
Just heard it on the news, and found this on USAToday's Sandbox. Seahawks signed safety Deon Grant, formerly of the Jaguars, to a six-year contract that could pay him more than $30 million. What does this do for his numbers, and what does it do for Hamlin? godtomsatan
What does this do for his numbers, and what does it do for Hamlin? Hamlin hasn't had too many biters. I believe he has only visited with the Saints. Which is odd to me, because the guy has deficiencies, but he makes plays. Grant is being touted as a "leader of the secondary", and it always scares me when teams bring up intangibles first rather than actual skills, but communication was supposedly a significant problem last year between Hamlin, Babineaux, and Boulware in the safety spots for the Seahawks. I don't think Grant's numbers change significantly (60-65 tackles/2-3 int), but the coverage ability of the defense improves.

Hamlin might be a nice addition to the Packers - they could use someone to replace Manuel. I also heard something that Boulware will be challenged again for his starting position by Green (broke his foot) so Grant will be a welcome addition to the secondary. Maybe he can help Boulware to reach his potential just by leadership? My 2 cents. (Former Boulware owner)

The Seahawks went and signed Brian Russell of the Browns this week as well, and initially have indicated that he and Grant will be the starting safeties this fall. Thanks for the info. Makes me feel better about dropping Boulware!
