Heads up on Bryan Thomas

Recommended Posts

The Jets just hired one of the NY area's best beat writers, Randy Lange, to be the new "Director of Publications". He will have total control over anything the Jets publish, including the web site, and certainly supplying the NFL with the official depth chart. Lange is far too football savy to develop a 4-3 base defense to send to the NFL.

It's a near 100% probabilty that he does a new 3-4 based depth chart, so it is nearly a sure thing that Bryan Thomas will be listed as a OLB, which is in fact what he is. Fair warning.....

OK humor me, what exactly do you mean by the line in bold?

I agree with everything else, just curious what being "football savvy" has to do with the 4-3 ?

OK.... the Jets' PR dept generated last year's depth chart. They are PR people, not football people. There is a big difference. Lange, being an ex-Jets beat reporter was one of the many area writers that weren't happy with the alphabetical list Mangini gave the media, instead of a depth chart. Lange was hired as a guy with some football knowledge to oversee and produce all electronic and print production for the Jets franchise.

The Jets ran a 3-4 last year. Lange isn't about to publish a 4-3 depth chart... he knows better, and it's a reflection on him. The old Jets PR department obviously didn't care if the depth chart was accurate, just as long as there was one to send to the NFL, an NFL requirement.

I know Lange's work... and he will do a good job, being a guy that understands what the other writers are looking for and he'll generate an accurate depth chart. He's a knowledgable football guy... and the Jets old PR people weren't.
