Randall
According to NFL Live. March 23, 2007, 3:04PM Officially out: Carr released by Texans By JOHN MCCLAIN Copyright 2007 Houston Chronicle After weeks of trying to get a draft choice for quarterback David Carr, the Texans have decided to release the five-year veteran, making him an unrestricted free agent who can sign with any team in the league. The Texans also are releasing running back Domanick Williams (formerly Davis), their former leading rusher who has been unable to play because of a knee injury. An announcement is expected later today. Edited March 23, 2007 by Randall
Fatman
Wow. They get nothing for him.
Swampnuts
I hope he can handle the Minnesota winters. My guess is he signs with the Vikes within the week.
piratesownninjas
Three years ago when they went 8-8, these guys looked to be building blocks of the organization...
Bronco Billy
Wow. They get nothing for him. I'd say that shows respect for Carr - let him negotiate his own deal as he sees fit despite being able to probably get a 2nd day pick for him in a trade. Ursa Majoris
I hope he can handle the Minnesota winters. My guess is he signs with the Vikes within the week. That would be my guess too. Whether he starts is a different matter. Also, right now there's next to nothing to throw to.
Azazello1313
I'd say that shows respect for Carr eh, nah, i'm thinking what it shows is pretty much just ineptitude. i have no doubt whatsoever that if they COULD have got value for carr, they WOULD have got value for carr. Bill Swerski
How could they not have gotten a freaking draft pick for Carr before the Schaub trade? Who in their right mind wouldn't give up a 7th-rounder for a young guy with a good arm? What were the Texans asking for, a freaking second-rounder? My God, these guys are absolutely awful at negotiating trades...

But instead, they chose to release him and get nothing in return. I don't see the upside in that option. As mediocre/bad as Carr has been, how is he not worth a late draft pick? EDIT: Unless, of course, the latter portion of Carr's contract is pricey. I imagine that there isn't more than a year or two left and that the base salary isn't terribly high, though. Rockerbraves
Is Davis done? Sure he is questioning his faith in the lord.

That would be very surprising considering the negative comments Childress had about him the other day. It would be a nice to have another option at QB though as long as it doesn't break the bank. CaptainHook
coulda had Julius Peppers, instead drafted David Carr. coulda had Reggie Bush, instead drafted Mario Williams. glad they are in the Colts' division . . .
Randall
I'd go more with number two...they've paid him $35M over five years...that's enough respect. Last year they could have saved $8 million by releasing him but paid him to come back. Then draft VY or Reggie Bush. They seem to be a year behind the curve. That might just do it.

I'd love to see him backing up either Delhomme or Hasselbeck. QB's are to damn hard to find out there, I can't imagine he's unemployed for more than a matter of days. Jolly Rodgers
No way he signs with Oakland.
Riffraff
If he gets traded, signing bonus $$$ is applied to their salary cap this year. If he gets cut, they save some $$$ against the cap. Probably wasn't worth the $$$ to get a low 2nd day pick.
