HIGHLANDS RANCH - A Broncos wide receiver was arrested late Monday night after an argument with his girlfriend escalated.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says they were called to the 8500 block of Gold Peak Lane in Highlands Ranch after receiving a report from a woman about a fight with her boyfriend.

The woman told police her boyfriend, Denver Bronco Brandon Marshall, would not let her leave. According to the sheriff's office the report, Brandon blocked her taxi with his vehicle.

Marshall was arrested for false imprisonment and domestic violence. He was advised Tuesday morning and released in lieu of $2,500 bond at 2 p.m.

The Rocky Mountain News is reporting that the couple, who have known each other since 8th grade, were arguing because apparently she was skanking around with other guys. They had been arguing about that earlier in the day, and she was scheduled to fly home to Georgia. She called a taxi to take her to the airport, and he tried to stop her because he said she had his Blackberry wireless phone. He blocked the taxi with a vehicle & then got out & pounded on the passenger window, calling her a b#tch.

She got out, they went back into his apartment, and apparently she got a ticket for a later flight, and he paid $80 for the taxi ride for her to get to the airport. He was then jailed for false imprisonment & domestic violence.

:D

As an addendum to the story, Colorado has a mandatory arrest statute if any form of domestic violence is alleged.

yeah, not even so much as "alleged", it's basically if cops are called and show up to the scene, someone (99.9% of the time, the dude) is leaving with them. i can sorta understand why they do it, but it's something that is wide open to all kinds of abuse at the hands of women.

he's one of my sleepers this upcoming season or the next....he better keep his attitude in check :D

Before the incident occurred yesterday, Shanahan was asked about Marshall's potential, and he replied that he thought Marshall could legitimately become the #1 WR in DEN. Stated Shanahan, "He's got that type of ability. He's got great speed, great hands. Very strong."

I wouldn't put too much stock into this. As far as I know, this is Marshall's first incident, and overall it seems somewhat minor, especially considering that after the incident and before police arrived his girlfriend went back into the apartment with him and they talked it through, after which she got on her plane after he provided the taxi fare. Colorado laws don't provide much of anything can be done by police other than jail someone after something like this. Looks like just a good dust up between the two & Marshall lost his temper without physically harming anyone.

Just wondering though - if he can be charged with false imprisonment for blocking the taxi's path, why isn't she jailed with theft for taking the Blackberry phone, which may have contributed to escalating the situation?

Sounds to me like a very minor incident, most likely ending with all charges being dropped. As much as I can't stand the life styles some of the punks in the NFL have, I also have to wonder if just being in the NFL makes them a target. Heck, I've seen fist fights in my neighborhood between family and nothing happens. Everyone goes home and sobers up. Not something that happens often, but it does on occassion. Actually, it only happens at one guy's house.... Irishman that likes to drink and has a hot temper. Five years ago he came after my two mutts in my own driveway with a shovel.... said the dogs (one too old to climb stairs and the other a 4 month old boxer) scared his kids. Drifting off topic, but that was pretty funny... I came out with a bigger shovel. A spade vs. a snow shovel. He went home.

Marshall has some real promise, I've been on his bandwagon since the bowl games. I think he's a good kid, and I see this as a very minor thing.... as long as this is the end of any trouble.

Agreed here...the players are sometimes victims of their own standing in life. In addition, anytime a woman is complaining of violence or a potentially abusive situation, law enforcement officials have to react this way.

Either way, Marshall is going to be found guilty...of the crime that happened or of his being a man and of his celebrity.
