China Bowl cancelled

I understand that the league for some reason sees Asia as a wide open new market for the game, but do they have some research that says there's even a remote interest in a significant number of Asians that it justifies all the nonsense in playing a game overseas? NFL Europe is a dismal failure, evenmoreso now that the NFL is no longing twisting teams' arms to send actually viable players to Europe.

How in the world does the league justify the incredible logistics of shipping teams, their support, & all the broadcast support across the Pacific? Maybe the NFL should come to grips with the fact that the NFL is almost a uniquely American passion and that despite that, they are still making everyone involved in ownership and playing of the game rich beyond reasonable expectations.

Let the rest of the world watch a bunch of sissies playing kickball who collapse like they've been plugged by Dirty Harry everytime someone comes within 5 feet of them, and games ended in excruciatingly exciting 0-0 ties where teams each took 5 shots that had even a remote chance of going into the goal all game.

Ultimately, just like baseball and basketball, the NFL is going to need the best athletes in the world if it wants the worldwide fame that the other two sports have, rather than simply the best athletes in the US. In the end, the competetion can only get better and can become even more compelling to watch, domestically as well as internationally. Having the game cancelled is actually pretty sad.

The NFL won't get the best athletes in the world if they don't pay what MLB and the NBA do. The NFL has already lost a number of great athletes to MLB's higher slaries and guaranteed contracts.

I really couldn't care less if Europe or China have "American football" leagues or not, as it'd be no skin off our back. Having better athletes is always nice, but it doesn't necessarily translate into a more popular league. IMO, the NHL probably has the best athletes in the world (in terms of speed, strength, skill, endurance, toughness), yet nobody in America seems to give a crap. Whether it's foreign talent (Mario Lemieux, Dominick Hasek, Jaromir Jagr), home-grown talent (Brett Hull, Chris Chelios), or even a stud minority player with the potential to be the next Tiger Woods (Jarome Iginla), nobody in America watches the NHL anymore.

Yeah, because you can see the impact from the hugh number of Europeans now playing in the NFL since NFLE was instituted.
