Panthers looking to deal Jenkins?

Maybe Denver?

"Research shows no team might have improved its pass rush this offseason more than the Broncos.

Say what? There has been concern in Denver because the team loaded up on Jay Cutler's side of the ball this offseason without adding a pass rusher. The lone defensive line acquisition, Alvin McKinley, is a run-stopping tackle who comes out on third downs.

Yet, in new defensive boss Jim Bates, the Broncos might have made their most significant pass-rush addition since, well, Elvis Dumervil in last year's NFL draft.

Check out Bates' résumé: In 1999, Miami Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor had 2 1/2 sacks in his third NFL season. The next year, his first with Bates, Taylor had 14 1/2 sacks and added 18 1/2 in 2002.

The Dolphins' other defensive end during that period, Trace Armstrong, went from 7 1/2 sacks in 1999 to 16 1/2 in 2000 - the only time he made the Pro Bowl during his 15-year career.

"We play different techniques with our defensive ends," Bates said. "There's several ways of doing things, and we always adjust to the personnel."

To those who would argue the Broncos don't have a Jason Taylor- or Trace Armstrong-caliber defensive end, there is Adewale Ogun- leye. After playing sparingly as a rookie in 2001, Ogunleye had 9 1/2 sacks for the Dolphins in 2002 and 15 1/2 in 2003, then left for Chicago, where he has been unable to match his production under Bates.

In 2005, Bates' only season of directing Green Bay's defense, end Aaron Kampman had 6 1/2 sacks after getting just seven in his first three years. Last year, Kampman improved to 15 1/2 sacks while employing the Bates-taught fundamentals.

None of those defensive ends came near the rookie production of Dumervil, who last year had 8 1/2 sacks in 13 games.

Eye on Jenkins?

The Broncos are looking for a veteran defensive tackle. A name Denver likely will consider is Carolina's Kris Jenkins. The Charlotte Observer has reported he is being shopped.

Denver liked Jenkins when he came out in the 2001 draft. He weighs about 340 pounds, which Bates likes in his tackles.

Jenkins could cost a midround draft pick. The Broncos have two third-round picks.

Denver also will likely look to upgrade the position early in the April 28-29 draft."

I'm more inclined to believe it involves Jenkins and a teams first rounder to go with it. This is to move up the board from the 14th spot. I believe it is in order to require Willis, as Landry or Nelson will be there at 14.

Jenkins has missed the two OS conditioning programs already this year, and he get's $175,000 in bonuses for showing up :D -sounds like he knows he's gone...and it's this work ethic that may show him the door anyway. There is a strong rumor that he may actually be cut in TC if they can't deal him now.

I'd like to see them deal with SF and the Panthers get the 11th pick outta the deal. SF needs DT help, so it could be feesable.

..why not Buffalo? They lost tackle machine LF to the Skins-they need to sure up the middle? So, let him gain weight and put him at NG(if Buff runs a 3-4).

Dave- you need someone else to talk to? :D

A thumping tackling machine MLB that runs sub 4.4 will go quickly.

And he seems like a mature kid as well.

So, now you think he'll be gone by 11 anyway-thought has crossed my mind, but the teams 1-10 need other things beside a MLB.

No I think chances he'll be gone are with SF and Buffalo at 10 and 12. I think either could take him. He could go to Miami too, but SF and Buffalo are the best bets.

Could Atlanta be intested at #8? Probably not with Williams and Brooking but you never know.

As of now, Denver, KC, and St. L are the players for Jenkins. The best being offered now is a 3rd rounder, but I expect better offers may come as the draft get's nearer. The Panthers will most likely keep him on the roster if they don't get what they feel is "fair market" value as draft picks are concerned for Jenkins. I'd say they deal him next week for better picks than are being offered now.
