spain
http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/ar.../704140352/1027 Saturday, 04/14/07 Pacman says he'll appeal suspension He calls punishment 'a little bit harsh' By JIM WYATT Staff Writer Titans cornerback Pacman Jones said Friday night he plans to appeal his season-long NFL suspension and believes he's been made the "poster boy'' by the league. Jones made his comments to an ESPN reporter at a boxing event in Tunica, Miss. "For the most part, I think it was a little bit harsh. I expected the suspension, but for a whole year, for a guy that hasn't been charged with nothing, I really didn't agree with it,'' Jones said. "But for the most part I am taking it like a man. I am going to appeal it and we'll see what the future brings. … Clearly, I am made to be the poster boy.'' Jones, who has had at least 10 run-ins with police since the Titans drafted him in 2005, can apply for reinstatement after 10 games if he follows conditions set by the league. He said he's received support from his teammates. "For the most part, my teammates call me every day,'' Jones said. "Kyle (Vanden Bosch) … is like a real close friend of mine and he is really going through this hard that I am going to be suspended for 10 games to a year. … "What I am going to do is I am going to work out every day and make sure I am in top-tip shape, but come Week 11, I plan on being back on the field.'' Bronco Billy
Let's see, he was suspended for multiple occurences of terrible off-the-field behavior, which is clearly defined as punishable by the CBA, he was suspended by the new commissioner with the full backing of the NFLPA and the newly formed player council, and now he's going to appeal to the new commissioner to have the penalty reduced or removed? Good luck with tht one, genius. Apparently Pacman's strength isn't in his intellect.

Ursa Majoris
He's going to be SOL on this one - there's no way Goodell backs down from this statement. Pacman isn't the real target - this is "pour encourager les autres".

CaptainHook
On the radio yesterday, Peter King said that the suspension of Pacman did NOT include the Vegas incident. If and when charges are filed in that case, he said that Jones' suspension would be extended into the first half of 2008! godtomsatan
He's losing how many million(s) by getting this suspension? It's his right to appeal, don't see why anyone would expect otherwise.

I am going to appeal it and we'll see what the future brings. … Clearly, I am made to be the poster boy.'' He's taking this like a man so he's running to appeal? I think taking it like a man would mean accepting the punishment and making sure he darn well doesn't repeat his actions. He is right about being the poster boy but it's not for the reason he thinks it is.

gbpfan1231
Anyone hear the ESPN radio show yesterday talking about the way the NFL should handle these suspensions? The dude said that Pacman should HAVE to play and not get paid. He thought that was a better punshment to make him workout everyday and play for free. I don't see how that is better? I think the fact he can'ty play hurts his team and that is a side punishment to him because his fellow players are now affected by his actions. Also, not playing for a year hurts his abilities and could hurt his future in the NFL. These are the outcomes that will hopefully make these idiots think before they do things. Anyone else hear that guy? Am I missing something? How would letting him play be a better punishment?

CaptainHook
I was thinking the exact same thing. Ursa Majoris
yeah, but his appeal is before the same guy who gave him the suspension in the first place . . . And the NFLPA was consulted first. Personally, I think there have been a number of players behind the scenes who are just as keen as the NFL to see people like Pacman rooted out. There's a lot of athletes out there doing a whole heck of a lot of community and charity work and they've had enough of being associated in the public eye with the likes of Pacman and Henry.
