Man...did you see how excited this guy was that they picked Jarrett? He told Steve Young just before the pick he wanted him and was all excited he would be able to teach and mentor him...

Looks like he is going to have to do it by phone.

that might be the very thing that made the Cats cut him

What an idiotic move by Carolina.

Pay a guy a $3 million roster bonus, then cut him.

It'll be a long time before this team is competitive again.

Not the way it went down... I pulled these from the Panthers blog on Charlotte.com

:D

No $3 million bonus for Johnson

Let's clear up a little matter here before it gets too wide-spread: The Panthers DID NOT pay Keyshawn Johnson a $3 million roster bonus on April 1, as has been reported elsewhere and has fans scratching their heads.

The Panthers did pay Johnson $1 million April 1. But that was deferred money from the signing bonus he agreed to when he initially signed with the Panthers. Johnson also was due a $1 million reporting bonus at the start of training camp. Obviously, he won't get that money and it won't count against the salary cap.

Cap implications of cutting Johnson

Let’s do a little more separating the facts from fiction on the finances of the Keyshawn Johnson situation.

Here’s the deal: He was scheduled to count $3.25 million against the salary cap this year. Instead, the Panthers will have to absorb $3.75 million in outstanding pro-ration of his original bonus, but they’ll actually save cap room with this move. As part of a new rule this year, Johnson will be designated as a post-June 1 release. That will allow the Panthers to spread his cap hit over two years.

He’ll count $1.25 million this year and $2.5 million against the 2008 cap.

Do I agree with cutting him? No, but they are trying to give their younger WRs reps and speed their development, so they decided to part ways with him. He also did a few other things that did not endear him with some of his teammates or management, so we will see how it works out, but they didn't pay him $3MM before cutting him. He was owed that money regardless.

I'm not a Meshawn fan, but at this point, I'd take him. A solid possession receiver with experience is just what Jackson will need. He's going to have a rough enough time as it is, but if his primary WR is MRob and TT, it'll be even worse.

Interesting. How can you cut a guy on May 1st and make him a "post June 1st cut"?

In any case, I'd welcome him back to the Jets.

This how it panned out-staright forward and easy as hell to understand-They paid him 6 mill for one season. They cut him as I said in one thread and PSU in this one to get the younger WR in the game and be accountable in the offense. To keep him They would have had to pony up 1 million more at TC and then the salary as well. Smitty is due some more $$ and this creates fantastic competition and development for the #2-#4 spot. This is a great move by a team who is changing it's OT philosophy and system, and Key, by hanging in SoCal is no more immeresed in the new system than Jarrett and less so than Smitty, Carter and now perhaps Colbert as well-who have been around in the OS starting to get an early grasp on the new system and getting to know the new coordinator......Fox and Hurney don't wan't guy's who just hang out and leave them hanging on wether he may play or not....Cat's made plans, decisions and moves...Key was not part of that, nor did he seem that he wanted to be either.

Both MRob and TT are gone. Starters right now are probably Williamson, McMullen, and Wade.

MRob signed with Detroit last week.

I'm on the fence with whether I want him to be on the Vikes this year. The experience could be valuable I guess and he's a wr willing to block, so seeing as how we're going to run a lot, that's another plus. But still not sure if we need him.

I wouldn't sign him to big money. And if he gets beat out in camp, so be it.

I bet Childress would have to think long and hard before bringing TO-Lite onto his team. We had our chances to bring in half-way decent receivers during Free Agency and let them all pass by. I don't think we need to jump on Keyshawn now. Besides... we got Lowber baby! :D

I wouldn't want him on the Vikes considering he had run ins with every coaching staff and that was the reason he got cut. He would not set a good example for the young receivers...

Don't think it would be that big of a deal. But I'll take Moulds too I guess.

Should have just given that extra 4th rounder for Randy. :D
