detlef
One of my reps brought by ACVV's 2nd label Cab the other day. Off hand, I forget the vintage (I have some at the restaurant and will check when I get there). Dude, that is some tasty juice. I told him that I didn't think it was wise that they release it 'cause it was so damned good, I'd have a hard time ponying up the money for the real thing. Here's the deal, it wholesales at $15.50!!!!! Completely locked and loaded, great fruit, firm but yielding tannins, and enough nuance. Best thing is, they only wanted to be in one restaurant and one wine shop so I have a near exclusive in the state. If you see a bottle, pick it up. Edited to add: It's '05 vintage. It's always great to find a winery's "second label"! Sounds like some great juice... Usually Cali. winery's will try to hide the origin of their second label and market it in a different way, so it surprises me that they are labeling it as theirs and pricing it so low! I will have to look for it or can you ship me a case Detlef? I lucked out a few years ago and found out what label Peter Michael was selling their replanted Les Pavot vineyard under. They were also marketing the excess Chardonnay juice under the same label "Knights Valley" pretty unoriginal and the foil over the cork was the exact same as the Peter Michael bottles. They shipped all of the wine to New York and New Jersey under that label. I ordered three cases of each for two years (99-00)and when I called the winery to inquire about where I could get more, they were pretty pissed about anybody knowing that it was their second label... "Who told you this??" "Where did you buy it!!??" "How did you find out?!" I politely declined comment or letting them know who I was. It sucks though, because I got 2 years of some great juice at $15 - $20 a bottle! They now market the same blend as L'espirit Des Pavots at $100 a bottle! Edited to add: My post got me searching again and they are now marketing their Pinot under the Knights Valley Label; haven't tasted but my sources say it is great juice!! At 1/10th the price!! It's $34.99.... Edited May 4, 2007 by sundaynfl
