Ziachild007
LINK Linebacker Gardner is released by Colts Gilbert Gardner's roller-coaster career with the Indianapolis Colts has ended on a downswing. The team released the veteran linebacker Monday, approximately 11 weeks after issuing him a one-year, $850,000 non-guaranteed tender as a restricted free agent. The decision to jettison Gardner, a third-round draft pick in 2004, is the final phase in what represents an unfulfilled stint with the Colts. After appearing in 22 games and starting three in his first two seasons, Gardner moved into the starting lineup at strong-side linebacker to replace David Thornton, who signed with Tennessee as an unrestricted free agent. The former Purdue University standout started 12 of the first 13 games, but was inconsistent -- 66 total tackles -- and replaced by veteran Rob Morris. Gardner played sparingly in the final three regular-season games and did not dress for the Colts' four postseason games, including their Super Bowl XLI win over Chicago. Also released Monday were linebackers Mike Labinjo and Brandon Hoyte and safety Trevis Coley. The team signed free agent Matt Farbotko, a rookie tight end out of Harvard.
