Jason Snelling - Dynasty Sleeper

Could Jason Snelling be this year Colston at RB? Petrino wants a big back - Could Snelling be the guy?

Jason Snelling Virginia 5'11" 230 lbs. (Atlanta Falcons)

Like Brian Leonard, Snelling is equally comfortable as a tailback and a fullback. Unlike Leonard, teams will see him as a fullback that can also catch passes and run the ball in short yardage instead of a tailback that can also line up as a lead blocker. Snelling's blue collar attitude assures that he'll be a quality addition to any offense.

Well, he was drafted around the same place as Colston was.

But he was the 17th RB drafted last month and Colston was the ONLY WR from deeper than around the 3rd round to do anything in his rookie season ever far as I can tell. Colston was a freak event of monumental proportions. Snelling only runs a 4.75/40 which is one reason why he lasted to the final round. Maybe this can happen but the Falcons had plenty of other chances to pick up a big back prior to their final draft pick at the 7.34.

Here's the last 7 years worth of RB's that were drafted and when.

Maybe as a final pick in a dynasty draft but I would be surprised if Snelling amounted to anything close to carrying in every game. The guy is much more like a fullback and most everyone forecasted him as just a blocking fullback in the NFL. Worth watching but I wouldn't have great expectations for a slow, 7th round fullback type.

Colston dropped because he was injured for all of 2004 and though he had a good year in 2005, he came from Hofstra where he played against Furman, James Madison, Stony Brook University, U. of New Hampshire, etc... And even then - he did not have remotely as good a year as he had in New Orleans in 2006.

Petrino could have picked either Michael Bush or Kolby Smith (who he coached last year) and didn't. Bush runs a 4.58 and wieghs 245 pounds. Smith ran a 4.5 and he is 220 pounds (he replaced Bush last year). But Bush (4.01) and Smith (5.11) were not taken by Petrino and it would be surprising if it had anything to do with Snelling to me.

This is what I read;

4.56 in the 40-yard dash … 355-pound bench press … 460-pound squat … 308-pound power clean

As an 8th. rd. pick I could find room on my TS for him. He's supposed to catch the ball pretty well out of the backfield also. Maybe just a fullback but, he could have something to contribute.

Snelling ran a 4.79 at the NFL combine which was the slowest of any RB that ran.

yea but what does this do to the value of Norwood?? I just traded for him in my dynasty

Go look at the average size of Coach Petrino's running backs that he lets carrier the ball at Louisville - Norwood and Dunn don't fit the mold
