irish
STL - RB Jackson Targeting 2,500 Total yards Source: Bill Coats, St. Louis Post-Dispatch Rams RB Steven Jackson is setting some lofty goals. "My goal is 2,500 total yards from scrimmage," Jackson said. "And how I get it doesn't matter. But I want to get to that number." Jackson had 436 touches last season, and only the Chief's Larry Johnson had more, with 457. The Rams, however, would like to lessen Jackson's workload, which is partly why they drafted Rutgers RB Brian Leonard in the second round this year. "We've just got to be able to manage how much (Jackson) plays," Linehan said. Jackson understands, to a degree. "My philosophy is, to be considered great in the National Football League you have to be the marquee guy, you have to shoulder the burden of the running game," he said. "This is a business, and as an organization, we do have to have guys to be ready to come in and play and protect ourselves as an offensive unit and as a team. ... "But me, I cherish the moments when I can put myself in tough situations and come out on top." "Some people may feel that I'm reaching," Jackson said of shooting for 2,500. "But I believe goals are to be set, and then you just go after them." This is far from an outlandish goal. Only Marshall Faulk (2,429 yards in 1999), Tiki Barber (2,390 in 2005), LaDainian Tomlinson (2,370 in 2003), and Barry Sanders (2,358 in 1997) have topped the 2,334 yards that Jackson amassed last year. He'll just be 24 years old this season and looks to be primed for a fantastic 2007. Most have him as the #2 RB to come off the board and that's very understandable considering who's #1. However, I said it before and I'll say it again, I would not be shocked if SJax were taken #1 and actually finishes the year as the #1 RB/overall point leader. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/st...42?OpenDocument Edited June 9, 2007 by irish

piratesownninjas
Keep this thread available. He won't even be close. I agree. He had an insane last month of the season where he got a hugh chunk of thost stats. I don't think he could do it again without Brian Leanord stealing touches... If I have the #1 overall pick this year I'd still consider him with the Rams due to their schedule this year as this could be the year he becomes the "stud" RB in FF. I really feel strongly that it will be. Not that I go by strength of schedule when it comes to studs vs everyday Joe's. However, when it comes to studs vs studs, SJax has a more favorable schedule and I love the way he's used in the passing game. Another thing is LT broke the scoring record last year and even with that disparity in TDs over SJax, Jackson made up some of the lack of scoring with receptions. So with a slight fall in TDs for LT and increase for SJax, it's not too far fetched at all.

I don't think Jackson does what he did in the last month of last season. Another reason why I dont think Jackson will get those numbners... Torry Holt, Issac Bruce, Drew Bennett, and I think they'll win 10 games.

I do understand where you're going with this and I do think that Leonard will get some looks but he'll make a great blocker and change of pace/breather guy for Jackson. He'll keep him fresher and allow him to do even more with the touches he gets. SJax is the centerpiece of this team and they're not just going to let Leonard take anywhere near a significant piece of the playing time. I know Jackson is a big guy but so is Leonard (he's actually heavier) and one of my concerns is that they may give Leonard some cracks at the GL. Zooty
Don't you mean this? I like the 9.12 pick. That's the kind of stuff that happens when you draft in January. Some fool gets lucky But if you notice, PD passed on Jackson for Parker Edited June 9, 2007 by Zooty
Randall
That's the kind of stuff that happens when you draft in January. Some fool gets lucky But if you notice, PD passed on Jackson for Parker Exactly. Back then Martz was still HC and SJax wasn't really used much. Favre wasn't sure he was coming back either. Some fools are so lucky they win the Super Bowl too.
