Bronco Billy
The top 25 TEs as listed by mfl.com in 90 non-keeper drafts, give or take, so far this year: # Player Avg. irish
I think LJ smith should be higher. Heap is definitely Top 5 but because he's always so banged up I don't know if he'll finish #2. And I certainly think both Troupe and M. Lewis should be ranked a bit higher. Also V Davis should not be at #3 yet. We all know the guy has great talent but let him prove it first by getting through a full season putting up consistent numbers not to mention the team still has a liking for E Johnson. Duchess Jack
Vernon is up there. my take... 1. Gates 2. Heap 3. Winslow 4. Davis 5. Shockey 6. Gonzo 7. Crumpler 8. McMichael 9. Cooley 10. LJ Smith
URLACHERisGOD
I took Davis as my #1 TE in one of my leagues this year. So, I hope he lives up to his ADP. I'm fairly safe with Cooley at #2 but, I really need Davis to perform.
godtomsatan
3 Davis, Vernon SFO TE 68.46 A little high for my tastes. How much of his numbers were a result of a lack of legit threats to throw to? 10 Watson, Ben NEP TE 110.57 Very low. I expect him to be top 6. 11 Adkisson, James OAK TE 119.29 Huh? Probably someone drafted him super high and it skewed the numbers. Can only guess that as a reason. 17 Scheffler, Tony DEN TE 162.64 18 Daniels, Owen HOU TE 177.25 Both are in interesting situations that could catapult them. Who in the hell is James Adkisson in OAK? Is Vernon Davis ranked too high right now? Do guys on the bottom like Eric Johnson, Ben Troupe, & Marcedes Lewis have a good chance of climbing a ways up the list? Thoughts? Vernon Davis is too high. He could be the next great thing, but was either injured or inconsistant last year. Jeremey Shockey is also rated too high. There is always something wrong with him, and I think his reputation far exceeds his production. Chris Cooley should be way higher. In my leagues scoring he was 6 points away from passing up Todd Heap for the no.4 Tight End in the game. I think he's also got all the tools, along with a strong chemistry with Jason Campbell to potentiall take over the no.2 TE spot, behind Lord Gates. Greg Olsen is also way too high. He will only play on certain downs, as Desmond Clark is a solid, all around TE. Bubba Franks being rated at all is too high. This guy is an absolute spare. He needs to worry about making the team, and I don't see him winning the starting job in Green Bay. Franks is a shell of his former self. mitpdub
The word from camp yesterday was that Vernon Davis was having a great camp and offseason with Alex Smith and they're in synch. They say he's been working on his hands and now that he understands the playbook should be a force.

BeeR
yep. Davis too high, Crumpler too low IMO.
Swiss Cheezhead
LJ Smith seems to be the best value right now. He's in a contract year, and he really developed a chemistry with McNabb early last year.
rbmcdonald
Greg Olsen is also way too high. He will only play on certain downs, as Desmond Clark is a solid, all around TE. I hope so. I traded for Clark in a 32 team league, I came in second last year. TE was my weakest position (I started Royal most of the year), so I traded for Clark. Was not planning on him being a solid starter for multiple years, but I did hope to get a full year out of him in 07.
Stingers
With all the quarterback controversy in JAX - I'm not so sure Mercedes Lewis will climb up any farther than he is. as someone who owns him in a few leagues.

Do guys on the bottom like Eric Johnson, Ben Troupe, & Marcedes Lewis have a good chance of climbing a ways up the list? Thoughts? Without reading any responses except BB's notes at the end.... - Gates at #1, no surprise there. But I wouldn't be shocked to see Heap's name closer to Gates' come the end of the season when it comes to overall fantasy points. - Shockey behind Gonzalez? OK, I'll stomach that... but behind Davis? Not buying it. - Adkisson? Like BB notes... what? Especially since they drafted a Heap clone in Zach Miller (who appears at #22 ADP here). and related to BB's other queries... - I like Johnson in NO a whole lot. He proved that he has the talent and goes to a fantastic situation with the Saints and a QB in Brees who loves passing to his TE. hugh sleeper IMO. - Troupe's pretty much the most talented pass-catcher in the Titan receiving corps right now. And that's rather sad. But he has a chance to have a decent season. - Marcedes Lewis has the size and talent and is poised for a breakout season.
