montster
i've only recently gotten back into grilling, and i find myself trying out more recipes that call for specific internal temperatures (smoking a pork butt, for instance). i have a thermometer i bought for this purpose, but it doesn't seem to be "instant read." the store has a ton that say "instead read" on them, but i'm wondering if they all are about the same or what. i know this may seem like a lame question for something that seems so simple, but anyone have any recommendations on instant read thermometers? if they say "instant read" on the package, is that what they mean -- in other words, i don't have to wait for the little dial hand to go up? and is digital any better? thanks. Bier Meister
i primarily use ones that have the little hands that reach the current temp. i really don't think it takes that long to reach temp and they are pretty accurate... every so often you need to calibrate them to ensure that they at the correct temp before checking meat(taht invloves ice water). I thought you were supposed to test them by putting it in boiling water....
Bier Meister
you can use either extreme.
