with rookies to sign, the Chiefs should have resolved this before though I would guess they will sign him and with the prorated bonus and all he won't cost them much more for this year.

$1.75 million is pretty much insulting to a player that has done as much as he has the last two years. They should have taken care of this at the end of last season. Chris Brown just signed a one-year deal worth $1.8 million - by that measure LJ should be making $25 million a year.

muck, just what the hell are they doing in KC? There's no way he should be left hanging based on his production the last couple of years.

You know normally I'd say he signed a contract and he needs to be in camp and play by the terms of the contract, then again he is vastly underpaid and deserves an extension. :D

Johnson is signed through the 2009 season. Under normal circumstances, I'd say that he needs to suck it up, stop whining, & make good on the contract.

This one is the exception to the rule. Yeah, he did sign the long term rookie contract with a good signing bonus, but his play has easily transcended that level. To expect him to carry the kind of load he has, and put forth the kind of performance he has, and ask him to still honor the terms of that contract, is absurd.

This isn't a vet with a prior track record signing a hefty 2 or 3 years contract and then wanting to tear it up after 1 year. KC & Peterson need to cough up appropriate compensation, even if it isn't the between-Manning-and-LT-money that Johnson is looking for. If KC doesn't step up, this will one of those very rare times you'll see me support a player holding out.

Obviously LJ deserves a lot more, and I'm sure KC would be willing to pay him a lot more....it's how much more and for how long that is the issue. Plus KC has to think about how much longer he can produce at that high a level or even close - offhand I'd guess a couple years tops, esp the way he is the focal point.

PS - I'd be a lot more for the "pay him what he's worth/how he produces" if contracts were structured such that a player also had to give BACK truckloads of $ if he played well below his salary.

Don't do it KC! Make an example of him!

Not to mention that they ran LJ into the ground last year with 400+ carries (which could very well shorten his pro career) and he didn't say a peep. Give the guy his due or let him go.

I think LJ would agree.

They can afford to wait him out with super star talent like Michael Bennett backing him up.

:D

They have this cool thing called the NFL draft every year. This allows pro teams to select college players to add to their rosters during the offseason. This past draft KC added a guy named Kolby Smith, who is a RB.

FYI.

This news is already affecting his draft position. There was a mock draft last night, keeper though, where he slipped to #6.

Peterson is notorious for his - shall we say - frugality? (Lincoln screams the way he holds onto a penny...)

This could get very interesting.

Question is, what are his demands for a contract? Would you pay him more than LT's getting? I don't think I would.

More than LT? No. In that neighborhood? Yes.
