ReturnToSender
What are folks opinions on Jerry Porter this season. I have heard that he loves his new coaching staff, and this guy has freakish skills, so does this sound like a match made in heaven? Also, the quiet one, Ronald Curry (local star from High School around here) who seems to get nothing but bad breaks with the heel. Do both of these guys HAVE DECENT VALUE? Bronco Billy
Poter could be Steven Smith and still not have a good season. The QB situation is still unsettled (and there's a good chance they'll start a rookie at least part of the season) and their O-line sucks badly. I've got Porter on a dynasty roster and I'm hoping he'll give me #3 FF WR numbers, or at least be a reasonable bye week plug in.

As for any Oakland receiver, I'd think of them as nothing more than possibly a 3rd WR or bye-week fillers. Until we know what kind of QB Russell is and how much time the line gives him, I steer clear. Edited July 5, 2007 by The Wolf
RaiderSteve
At this point and time it's kinda hard to say any Raider will put up fantasy worthy numbers. New coach, new system (was there a system last season?) I've always liked Porter's skills, but it's been one thing after another with him. I like Curry a lot too. It all depends though of course if we have a QB that will have time to throw the ball to a receiver without having to dodge a bull rush of defenders on every down. DMD
Agreed with the previous sentiment. And before anyone thinks "Well someone has to get the passes in OAK", I believe the Raiders proved last year that no, actually, no one has to get the passes in OAK. kpholmes
Oakland is going to have a very crowded recieving corps this year... and none of them will be consistent. Porter, Curry, Gabiral, Johnny Morrant, the new rookie Johnny Lee Higgins, and Kiffin's personal project Mike Williams... All of them are known names for Raider fans because if they were on the roster last season, they've started at the #1 or #2 spot... Morrant is the one who has been doing better than the others so far this offseason however, and Curry and Gabrial have always been decent #2s... Porter has a shot at #1 just because he has been there so long, and is decent when he works hard... but Higgins and Williams are Kiffin's guys and he will put them on the field. Bottom line, It's a mess. Stay away from it.

The only guy I have is Higgins in a dynasty.

And before anyone thinks "Well someone has to get the passes in OAK", I believe the Raiders proved last year that no, actually, no one has to get the passes in OAK. I disagree. While yes, there might be a new head coach and a new system, they sure were able to get Curry the ball a lot when he played. When he started playing, he caught 3-32, 8-99-1TD, 9-87, 11-106, and 5-47. Why they couldnt do that with Moss was simply because Moss didnt care. I really think they have decent WRs, and someone outta catch a few balls here and there. Will it be Curry? Porter? No idea, but they can definitely get the ball to them. They will also have a better QB in OAK this year, whether that is McCown or Russell - both are upgrades from last year. byron2112
This situation should probably be stayed away from becasue of the line and QB situation, but if I had to choose one I'd take Curry. A couplea years ago, before he blew himself out, he was outperforming Porter by the end of the season... this is the season that both Rice and Brown had left and Porter was the #1. As I said Curry was turning into quite a playmaker. He's also got really good hands and knows how to get open. He's the kind of guy QB's love because he makes alotta important receptions on third downs and stuff, and he's a real team guy, not a loudmouth/malcontent. Problem is he's frequently injured, but if he weren't I feel like he'd develop into a nice #2 fantasy reciever. He's really already developed, he just can't stay out of the training room. Porter's got talent, he can get deep, but he's a long strider that doesn't possess the quickness of Curry and ability to seperate in a short space, and his hands are somewhat inconsistent. Plus he's a jackass, and you never know who a guy like that is gonna piss off be it the QB or headcoach.
budlitebrad
I'd rather have Nate Burleson.
Belushi
Curry put up very good numbers in the 2nd half with Walters throwing to him. I have no reason to believe he can't do at least as well with Russell or McCown throwing to him, who are both upgrades over Walters. Who knows with Porter? I've got him on a dynasty team, but I'm not expecting much more than a bye-week fill-in.
