Rod Smith (hip)

I am sure most of you have heard but:

News: 37-year-old Denver Broncos WR Rod Smith, who had an operation on his hip in February, sat out the Broncos' two-day minicamp. He's yet to run post-surgery except briefly in a pool. Smith doesn't know if he'll be healed in time for training camp, which begins July 29. But when asked about possibly hanging it up, the Broncos' all-time leader in touchdowns and receptions said the thought hasn't entered his mind. The Broncos want to take the cautious route as well. Smith thought he'd be further along by now. And while he's trying to remain upbeat, it's difficult. "Everybody's body is different," he said. "When you get a little older, it takes a little longer. My body said, 'No, you're not (ready).' I have to listen. The thing is getting ready for football season. I know camp is a part of the season, but football season starts in September. That's what I'm looking forward to."

Something tells me Rod is going a bit limp.

My question/thought - could Brandon Marshall be one of those WRs who comes out of nowhere? Don't know much about him, but we know Cutler likes to throw. Draftworthy?

Very draftworthy. If he doesnt take over the #2 this year, next year for sure. If in a redraft, he should be a decent flier to pick up late.

Marshall has moved up my draft board, but I will probably not be able to pick him in my locals (Denver) due to the homer factor. I think he has the chance to have a break out season. Smith didn't show much last year and it looked like he was barely able to walk last night on the news!

What streak?

I've drafted him in 12 Man like 3 years straight, usually reaching for him a little earlier than I needed to. It worked out in 2 of the 3 years, but obviously last year Rod Smith didn't do much.

I didn't think that your Smith picks were bad at all. Just want to give you a little chit. :D

I'm going to be sorry to see Smith go. The guy worked his way up from an UDFA & practice squad player to all-pro quality, and he did it through damn hard work. That said, it appears that Smith should consider putting himself out to stud. He'll have some value as a part-time #3 WR on this team IF he can overcome what is looking to be a more & more troubling hip issue. His timetable for recovery keeps getting pushed back and I get the feeling DEN is going to be very glad they acquired Stokley in the offseason.

It's sure to be you if you enjoy following the herd and banking on the production of bums.

And, oh by the way, after 6 years of play I've never finished worse than 4th out of 12.

Good luck continuing that success by making a habit of drafting 37 year old WRs that aren't named Jerry Rice.

I have. No one I play against has finished 4th or better in every league that we mutually play in for 4 years running, much less 6 years in a row.

Maybe you're making more of a statement about your opponents' capability than you are boasting about your own superiority...

I say no. The guy just had a second injury since MINI-CAMP! Training camp hasn't even begun and he is missing time with nagging-type injuires. To top it off he came to camp out of shape. Looks like "Baby TO" lacks the work ethic that makes Owens great. Sort of like "Baby Jordan"...

i want to take this oppurtunity to say what a HUGH Rod Smith fan i am. the guy is a class act, thru and thru. very productive fantasy guy and a good human being. i hope he is in the hall someday....-he could be one of the most underrated players of all time.

i know this is'nt supposed to be a Hot-Rod smith thread...but i could'nt resist.-anyone remember him playing in that game with 2 sprained ankles and scoring a TD? (Thanks-giving day i believe) - i had him that year and won.

...-thanks Rod. :D:D:tup:
