DMD
First off, this was for a magazine and it was only to build a 12 man roster that starts QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, TE, PK (no DEF) and 5 bench spots. Standard performance league. My initial plans was try to grab a top RB and WR, then spend some cash on RB2 and maybe $5 on a QB. This was a $100 salary cap. Ends up the shallow league meant top RBs went... rather expensively. Some good deals to be had at the end but I had burned up most of my money on QB, RB,RB, Wr so I had little chance to get some nice deals. I sort of got caught on bidding up Brady but I think he is worth what I paid - just shorted me a few bucks since I was shooting to get Kitna or Romo much cheaper. (My picks have an asterisk*) $100 salary cap, 12 man rosters QB 21 Peyton Manning 16 Carson Palmer 14 Drew Brees 13* Tom Brady 13 Marc Bulger 11 Donovan McNabb 9 Jon Kitna 4 Vince Young 4 Philip Rivers 3 Matt Hasselbeck 3 Tony Romo 2 Jake Delhomme 2 Eli Manning 2 Ben Roethlisberger 2 Brett Favre 2 Matt Leinart 1 Michael Vick 1 J.P. Losman 1 Rex Grossman 1* Jay Cutler RB 61 LaDainian Tomlinson 56 Steven Jackson 44 Frank Gore 44 Larry Johnson 33* Shaun Alexander 30 Joseph Addai 29 Willie Parker 29 Travis Henry 29 Rudi Johnson 25 Brian Westbrook 23 Laurence Maroney 20 Edgerrin James 19 Ronnie Brown 19 Maurice Jones-Drew 19 Willis McGahee 18 Reggie Bush 18* Cedric Benson 14 Clinton Portis 13 Marshawn Lynch 12 Marion Barber III 11 Thomas Jones 10 Carnell Williams 9 Deuce McAllister 8 DeAngelo Williams 8 Adrian Peterson 7 Jamal Lewis 7 Ahman Green 7 Brandon Jacobs 6 Ladell Betts 5 LaMont Jordan 5 Jerious Norwood 4 Tatum Bell 4 Kevin Jones 4 Julius Jones 4 Fred Taylor 4 Chester Taylor 3 Vernand Morency 3 Chris Brown 3* Warrick Dunn 2 Chris Henry 2 Brandon Jackson 2 Lorenzo Booker 2 DeShaun Foster 2 Brian Leonard 2 Michael Turner 1 Michael Bush 1 Garrett Wolfe 1 LenDale White 1 Anthony Thomas 1 Leon Washington 1* Tony Hunt WR 22 Chad Johnson 21* Steve Smith 18 Torry Holt 18 Marvin Harrison 16 Terrell Owens 16 Reggie Wayne 14 Roy Williams 13 T.J. DemonKnight
You must have a lot of confidence in SA to pay 33$ for him... I think the Tom Brady pick was spot on. My local is a 16 man auction with a 200$ cap. Thanks for the preview.

hooknladder
I'm a little surprised V.Young went before Hasselback, Romo and Rivers.
Big Talker
Here is your roster: QB - Brady, Cutler RB - Alexander, Benson, Dunn, Hunt WR - S. Smith, Clayton, Edwards, B. Jones TE - Winslow PK - not listed Solid starting lineup for a 12 team league! IMO you're a little thin is WR, but most weeks it will be Smith + mix and match, which ain't a bad combo. A solid backup for Winslow would have been nice, but given TE's are a dime a dozen after the top 8-9, you're probably in the same boat with everyone else at that position. I might be a little nervous about injuries, but other than that, I'd be feeling very good with this roster. DMD
welcome to the beauty that is an auction LT went for $61 of the $100 cap. That was about the highest percentage I have ever seen for a player.

That was about the highest percentage I have ever seen for a player. I thought the exact same thing myself. The top 4 RBs were way too expensive, as were the top 2 WRs. Kind of typical of what I've seen of auctions this year - too much emphasis on the 1st tier RBs so that there's nothing left to credibly fill the rest of a roster. If an owner laid off the top 4 RBs and the top 4 WRs, they could have assembled one hell of a team.
Savage Beatings
So, was this a live auction or did you somehow conduct it online? If you conducted it online, I'd be very interested in how you managed to set it up logistically. Another question... based upon how the auction ended up, in hindsite would you have bid any differently than you did?
Tford
It's tough to budget when the auction doesn't start out the way that you want. Although, SA and Benson were probably inflated fatter than you'd like, it was likely a necessary inflation to make sure that you could field a decent duo. Either way, you managed to get a solid RB corps together for about half the cap. Given that LT went for over 60%, getting your whole backfield, and a solid one at that, was solid. Smith for 21 was a great deal. I have him at about 25-30 but again the RB spending likely resulted in that depression. Either way, solid value. Cutler for $1, can't beat that. He likely goes for 3-8 in most auctions. Edwards and Clayton are hanging out in the 5-12 range for me, great deal to nab them at $3 each. KW2 is an absolute steal at $2. I don't like taking Brady for $13 but given the QBs that went around him, it is probably justified. Either way, solid auction, kudos for the post. The Holy Roller
We've done an auction in our local for two years now and it is suprising how many owners try to hold on to money to get some "bargains" later. While $61 for LT is pricey I have seen owners get hung with $$ for average players because all the studs are gone. I have no problem with an owner executing his auction option by getting who he wants.
TDFFFreak
I think you overpaid for Alexander and Steve Smith.
Azazello1313
the only move i really don't like is steve smith. i know it's hidnsight, but for the same price would you rather have fitzgerald and andre johnson, or smith and mark clayton? instead, your team is one steve smith hammy away from being god-awful at WR. I agree - Fitzgerald was the great value there. When I took Smith, he was the first WR bought. I thought he was worth the 21 at the time and everyone was going nuts on top players since Manning and the top RBs had gone. I would have been much happier in hindsight with Fitzgerald and addai instead of Alexander and Smith (and saved cash to spend elsewhere). The auction was rather different to start with since it was only a 12 man roster.

I love their product for having online, LIVE auctions. It really is a great way to do it and I have seen nothing remotely close to what it does. If you want to do an online live auction, you should check it out. I have done auctions on instant messengers and in chatrooms before, but nothing comes close to what FA does. That league was way top-heavy, even given the smaller rosters. $61 for LT is laughable. And Suffering succotash! w/Gates for $14 then the rest $4 on down (and $2 for Heap)?? Also agree w/what DMD said on FA.com. Hands down the best thing going near as I can tell.
