rhino
I've seen a couple hints in the press about this, but never posted it here. And I've been looking for something like this in the last year or so, since there's a lot of talk around here that "DCarr wasn't the problem in HOU, it was the OL and nothing but the OL." And the quote came back around in today's media. Woo-hoo! 1. I do believe some of the blame lands on HOU's OL. 2. Unlike the common thinking around here, DCarr had a LOT to do with the woes of the Texans in recent years. I'm very happy he's out of Houston. Carolina can have him. 3. Schaub may or may not be the answer. The jury is still out. But, it appears he possesses a lot of the intangibles that DCarr didn't : Leadership, huddle presence, teamness, student of the game. Snippet : Since he [schaub] was acquired in an offseason trade with the Atlanta Falcons for draft picks, teammates have raved about the differences they have seen in Schaub's approach compared to that of former quarterback David Carr. Where Carr often showed up only when it was required and often bolted early after after-noon meetings, Schaub has taken control and led the way. "If I come in at 6:30 in the morning, he's already there and through with his workout," Texans guard Chester Pitts said. "Matt's taken command. He has a pocket presence. So goes the quarterback, so goes the team." Edited July 26, 2007 by rhino
Bronco Billy
Good info as usual, rhino. BTW - you've got a PM, my friend.
rhino
I still think Carr was more of the problem than the solution. Per pre-season game #1: Matt Schaub (vs #1 CHI def) : 0 sacks David Carr (vs #2 NYG def) : 2 sacks

rhino
Apples and oranges, my Texan bretheren. It's pretty much the same OL from last year, no?
Zooty
It's pretty much the same OL from last year, no? You could argue that they have had a year of working together and that the Giants O-line is worse than last year. or You could say Carr still has terrible pocket presence
Ziachild007
It's pretty much the same OL from last year, no? Last nights starters: LT 74 E.Salaam LG 76 S.McKinney C 58 M.Flanagan RG 70 F.Weary RT 73 E.Winston I guess it depends on which lineup you want to compare it to. My point was you can't compare how Schaub performed against the CHI D and Carr performed against the NYG D to get an accurate assessment. Week 1 LT 77 C.Spencer LG 69 C.Pitts C 58 M.Flanagan RG 70 F.Weary RT 72 Z.Wiegert Week 2 LT 77 C.Spencer LG 69 C.Pitts C 58 M.Flanagan RG 76 S.McKinney RT 72 Z.Wiegert Week 3-4 LT 74 E.Salaam LG 69 C.Pitts C 55 D.Hodgdon RG 76 S.McKinney RT 72 Z.Wiegert Week 6 LT 74 E.Salaam LG 69 C.Pitts C 58 M.Flanagan RG 76 S.McKinney RT 72 Z.Wiegert Weeks 7, 8, 9, 10 LT 74 E.Salaam LG 69 C.Pitts C 58 M.Flanagan RG 70 F.Weary RT 72 Z.Wiegert Week 11, 12 LT 74 E.Salaam LG 69 C.Pitts C 58 M.Flanagan RG 70 F.Weary RT 73 E.Winston Week 13, 14, 15 LT 74 E.Salaam LG 69 C.Pitts C 55 D.Hodgdon RG 70 F.Weary RT 73 E.Winston Week 16, 17 LT 74 E.Salaam LG 69 C.Pitts C 76 S.McKinney RG 70 F.Weary RT 73 E.Winston
Jackass
"If I come in at 6:30 in the morning, he's already there and through with his workout," Texans guard Chester Pitts said. "Matt's taken command. He has a pocket presence. So goes the quarterback, so goes the team."[/i] He's clearly got the respect of his teammates which goes a long way. Obviously he's got to perform on the field but i like what i hear so far.
C-3PO
I didn't realize that Carr was such a chump. This drops him to no mans land in my super deep rankings.
