Jets RB Cedric Houston - Gone

The quitting from the team by Houston is curious considering he’d been somewhat productive in his two seasons with the Jets. Houston rushed for 374 yards and five touchdowns with a 3.3-yard average last season. His role, though, was certain to be diminished this year with the addition of Thomas Jones and the emergence of Leon Washington last year.

Houston was a sixth-round draft pick in 2005. He rushed for 676 yards and seven touchdowns and gained 109 receiving yards on 15 catches in two seasons with the team.

The fact that his name already has been eliminated from the roster on the team’s web site is a sure sign that Houston is not returning to the team.

Cedric Houston apparantly has left the Jets. Not just left Training Camp, but basically quit the team from what I understand.

Probably won't affect too many drafts, but I know I have him hanging around on one Dynasty team. Weird.

Seems like a situation where he was going to fail a drug test or so

mething and the Jets gave him a more honorable way out with an option to come back later on. Wouldnt be surprised to hear that he checked into rehab.

"Rich Cimini, of the New York Daily News, reports New York Jets RB Cedric Houston has been placed on the Non-Football Injury/Reserve list. Houston left the team Thursday, July 26, after he lost his passion for the game."

Sounds like he just up and quit?

It sounds that way, but there's usually more to it that that. He's a young player, not a Glenn or Strahan type who has been around for over a decade.

Do you have a link to a story that states this or is this your own, personal theory?

After watching that fat cross-dresser on "America's Got Talent", Cedric decided to drop out of football to become Boy Whitney!

And you like watching fat cross dressers?.... OK... I guess.

I was shocked after I heard this.... I've met Houston, even had lunch with him once at a fund raiser. Well spoken, smart kid. Seemed completely dedicated to playing football. I liked him personally, and was not able to be objective when evaluating him as just a football player... he's a genuinely nice kid. He overcame some serious odds to make it onto an NFL roster, and then to just walk away.... football in the NFL isn't for everyone I guess. Too bad.

This sucks for the Jets. Houston was a solid second stringer, a good spot player and someone capable of carrying the load in an emergency. I don't think he has the talent to be a week-in week-out starter in the NFL, but he was a valuable back-up.

Seems like a strange decision on his part.

I think the post above about potential substance abuse problems is pure speculation. However, given the strange circumstances here, I can't rule it out of the question.
