Special Teams TDs

I have a few people in my league who are trying to push for awarding players for special teams TDs. For example, if Reggie Bush or Steve Smith returns a punt for a TD, they feel that he should get 6 points. I am against the idea 100%.

Has anyone ever heard of this or have you ever played in a league with these rules?

I have played in a lot of leagues like this. THose types of TDs are simply awarded to the individual rather than to the Team D (or, if you did a separate ST position, that is removed).

If you are only scoring for TDs, it has a very minimal impact as so few major FF contributors also return kicks and punts (Jones-Dres is the main one that comes to mind that did last year, not sure if he still will this year).

If you include scoring for return yardage for individuals, then it will have a more significant effect.. most leagues that I am aware of that do award return yardage score it more in line with passing yardage (1 per 25 or so) rather than like rushing/receiving yardage (1 per 10)

I played in a league last year with an old friend and his brothers where they added special teams points awards rules to all players AFTER THE SEASON HAD STARTED. I mean c'mon, we had already drafted assuming that wasn't the case. I was irate.

My problem with adding special teams performance to any players is that I don't really give a crap about special teams. Guys like Willie Ponder become relevant and I just don't care about him. Maybe TD's are ok, because it's just one stat and there aren't copious amounts of them awarded but: no thanks.

It adds another strategy set to the game so I am all for it. I am playing in a league now that rewards for special teams and PPR... glad I have Bush in that one. :D

I don't think it adds strategy at all. It just rewards players for return TDs and, therefore, makes players like Bush slightly more valuable. I still think its a dumb idea. In fact, I'm a little surprised anyone has ever played with these rules before.

OKay, how does that not add a little extra strategy? It's another element of the game to consider when drafting and setting your lineup every week.

Yeah but only a few players that you care about have the chance to score special teams TD's anyway. Bush and... uh...

Are you going to draft Willie Ponder or Chad Morton or someone like that based on special teams production? It's not like special teams TD's are common.

I just can't ever see myself putting up a WR lineup like this: Holt, Chambers, Ponder.

So why bother?
