Hipster Doofus
Help needed guys. I'll be on a business meeting this upcoming week in Chicago (River North Gallery District) and I'll be the host one night and need ideas where I might take 8-10 steak-type guys. Cost isn't a factor. Thanks.

Seattle LawDawg
I'll enjoy this. I'm in Chicago quite a bit for business and seem to go to a different steak place every time. Of course, you could always go to Charlie Trotter's which does live up to it's reputation but probably has a bit of a more romantic ambiance than you're looking for. (and if you don't have reservations already, it'll be awhile before you get in). Gibson's is ok but, to me just doesn't stand out. Like Darin said, Chicago Chop House is very good. You won't go wrong with any of the Rosebud restaurants. They'll put a fine steak on your plate and are just fine for business dinners. Morton's: You can go to the original, but can go to these in most cities now. Capital Grille is outstanding with one of the better wine lists (although, they get competition from most of the others as well). Keefer's: IMO, Keefer's brings in the best things of most Chicago Steak houses. Fantastic steak, good wine list, good bar, solid sides, and a good setup for business meetings. This would be my choice of any on this list. The bone-in ribeye is fantastic. Right across the street from Keefer's is Harry Caray's which provides good steaks with an obvious connection to Chicago sports.
Hipster Doofus
Thanks to both of you for the suggestions. After looking into it a little more I think Keefer's is going to be the choice.

Very good service, great food. There is also one near O'Hare airport.
nogohawk
Capital Grille is outstanding with one of the better wine lists (although, they get competition from most of the others as well). We had a wonderful meal here when we stayed in Chicago. Also ate at the Signature Room atop the John Hancock Bldg. Not great food, but the view was spectacular - might want to try here for drinks before or after dinner.
Dutch Oven
I'll give a shout out to the Italian Village. Great food and you can go affordable or pricey there. Supposedly it is also the oldest Italian restaurant in Chicago, I believe.
justin
Joe's (Stone Crabs) makes a mean steak. It's tough to get in.
gilthorp
Hands down, I think the Chop House is the best of the bunch.

BigG58
Good selections by all here. Throw in my hat for Keefer's as well. Newer steak joint (2-3 years now in Chicago) & starting to get it's due. Unfortunately it also means $'s & crowds have gone up. The chef was trained at Ruth Chris's (so he knows steak) & french trained. You can get a great steak (also recommend the bone-in ribeye, make sure to get teh Bernaisse Sauce - sounds sacrilegious to recommend a sauce for a steak, but it is melt in your mouth good) or a fantastic lobster. Sides are big enough to be shared, a staple of Chicago stakehouses, and are very good (especially the pomme-frites) Also, be sure to get dessert (especially love the white chocolate orange creme brulee). With $ not being an issue, I am a big fan of Keefer's. You cannot go wrong with The Chop House either. You get HUGE pieces of meat, cooked to perfection. Same goes with Morton's. Gibson's is the place to be seen in Chicago (place to most likely to see visiting stars - if you into that). Steaks are great here too. Can be tough to get a table, specially on weekends. If you want to stay in the River North area (which is where I live), you can try Erie Cafe. Very good, lesser know steak house. Comes from the same family as Gene & Georgetti's (which most who have flown have seen in the airplane mags as best steakhouse in Chicago - i disagree). But, I feel is much better. They have very good steak & a prime rib that melts in your mouth and looks like something Fred Flintsone would order (giant bone-in prime rib). the Pepper Steak is also very good. Also have Italian and seafood dishes, so they have some more choices. Another River North & very trendy place is Japonais. Also a place to "be seen" and calls itself a Japanese steakhouse. This means they have a selection of Kobe stakes in addition to others. Good selection & preparation of sushi (so I have heard, not a Sushi guy). They do have a good bar downstairs with good drinks & plenty of good people watching. Also, very pricey, but a popular place with the business set. I could go on & on with some other Stakehouses, but you have plenty of choices here. As with most Chicago places, bring a big appetite & prepare for take home. You will get big steaks, prepared well. Most places will be noisy, but you will have a great time. Enjoy my city, it is the best in the country!

Seattle LawDawg
Wha? No Smith & Wollensky's? Are they closed or something? I have to admit...I've been to 3 S&Ws but never the one in Chicago. I've stayed at the HOB and Westin right there, Keefers and Harry Caray's are right around the corner and I usually end up at Keefer's. If its anything like the S&W in NY though, I'm sure it's very good as well.

Supposedly it is also the oldest Italian restaurant in Chicago, I believe. I went there on Tuesday. I thought the atmosphere was fantastic. I had the Seafood Ravioli and it was good but not spectacular. The waitress forgot two side items that we ordered as a group and by the time they arrived we were full. They were okay with taking it off the bill however. Given the prices (only $15 or $16 for my dish) I felt there was considerable value.
