matt770
There goes my plan to nonchalantly pick up Gaither off the WW around week 5.
Brownsfan420
Is this purely a salary dump? Or is there some other issue?
keggerz
Is this purely a salary dump? Or is there some other issue? this is not a salary dump at all....the writing as been on the wall for a bit....there were major concerns about his knees...gaither was running with the 1st team d last week in practice
i_am_the_swammi
I'm a little shocked at the move. He came into camp motivated from being shown-up in last year's playoff loss, and was one of the verbal leaders on the team. I was looking forward to the leadership he, Spikes and Dawkins would provide to the youngsters. He had lost about 15 pounds, and there was little indication from the coaching staff that this move was imminent. So in that regard, it is a little confusing. However, as Keg points out, Gaither has played better overall LB at camp, and was indeed running with the 1st stringers. Trotter seemed destined to a minor role, which maybe worried the Eagles in terms of how he owuld handle it. I have a feeling that this was nothing more than a classy move by the Eagles, knowing they weren't going to need a lot from Trotter this year, and rather than allow a potential problem to fester, released him now to allow him to catch on early with another team. Brownsfan420
So...his old D line coach is now the D coordinator for the Giants. I wonder who will pick him up? Revenge scenario looks pretty good.
Tega
Revenge - that concerns me. Trotter would be a big help with the playbook knowledge too.
keggerz
So...his old D line coach is now the D coordinator for the Giants. I wonder who will pick him up? Revenge scenario looks pretty good. trotter is a MLB and only a 2 down LBer at best...he certaintly wont supplant Pierce at MLB which means he wouldnt have a home with the Gints(cant see him even being a backup for them either) fwiw spag was the eagles LB coach not DL coach Edited August 21, 2007 by keggerz
keggerz
fwiw the depth chart at philadelphiaeagles.com has already been updated with Gaither as the MLB....after looking at it a bit more this also speaks VOLUMES to how SPIKES has come back from injury. budlitebrad
Definitely has upside as a 3 down MLB in a 4-3, but I'll play conservative and say he'll be a top 30 LB.

keggerz
I'd like to see him retire and become a part of the Eagles organization in some way, shape or form. they asked him about that and he said he is just trying to get thru the next 5 minutes. he is visably shook up about it but has high praise for reid and the organization
