Portis...what do people think?

I don't know anything about his situation either, but I have a feeling that this pre-season injury will magically clear up just before the regular season kicks off, and Portis will get a good 60-70 percent of the carries. Just a hunch though.

Portis went mid 4th in a draft I had this weekend. I drafted Betts. :D

Scared many off IMO.Injury concerns and the fact that Betts got a good sized deal as the so called back up,I mean TD vulture.Portis looks to be 3rd round material this year and if he stays healthy could be an OK pick.

I think you are correct.

In my current draft he went 4.04 in my 12 teamer.

Only thing I question is this short yardage thing. Again he had 7 TD's in 8 games last season, and wasn't 100%.

Question in short yardage? He's got a nose for the endzone... Something that Betts who averages 62 carries per touchdown doesn't have.

BUST

How? You guys are letting him fall in the 4th-6th round range...

He was a top five back heading into last years drafts along with Alexander. Portis at least performed well, yet he's falling to the 6th where as some of you guys are touting Alexander as a top 5 back...

Never have liked him. I drafted Betts in a local today and I'm confident I'll have a starter before the season is half done.

Portis is a top 5 talent in the league... The only way Betts starts is in the event of an injury to Portis... With both healthy, Betts couldn't carry Janky Spanky's jock.

I am questioning the short yardage questions surrounding Portis. I don't agree with them, which is why I stated the guy had 7 TD's in just 8 games last season. To me the issue is simple. If healthy, and that is a MAJOR if, Portis can be a top 10ish RB. To be honest I am WAY more concerned with injury than Betts. If Portis is healthy I think he will get 70% or so of the carries I really do. Is he healthy though???

People on this board have a hard on for Betts, so good luck getting an unbiased answer. I have them both in my main league, so I think I can be a true unbiased opinion...

Portis is the better back in all aspects, other than 3rd downs, which is fine. He gets the 70 percent of the touches and doesnt wear down.

As far as his health goes, Gibbs and Portis have both said that he's fine and he'll be ready to roll week 1.

Dr. James Andrews, who is one of the most respected doctors when it comes to sports injuries looked at Portis a few weeks back and said that the tendonitas problem will be gone shortly... I'm taking him no later than the early third, and I'll be laughing all the way into the playoffs.

Portis is a top 5 talent in the league... He doesn't need to carry the ball 350 times though. He needs around 250 carries, and 30 or so receptions and he's golden. I don't think he'll ever be the no.1 fantasy back, but I think he's capable of being a top 5 back.

I don't have a hard on for Betts, but I go limp for Portis.

Seriously, Portis' history and situation tells me that he will NOT be a top 5 RB this season. At best, he'll slide into the top 10, but it's not worth the risk too early in the draft. (But we've had this debate before... :D )

I agree with a lot of what you said. Hopefully this "injury" thing is just a little over blown and a good reason to sit Portis in the pre-season, especially after last pre-season. I think 70% of the touches is about right. I took Portis at 4.04 as my # 2 on a team that needs his upside. Due to deals last season I had no 2nd or 3rd round picks. We'll see.

I agree with this as well. I in no way see top 5. I'd say top 10ish IF things break right is not nuts. And that is the thing, he is going late these days. 5 in one draft. Late 3 in a 14 teamer. 4.04 in my 12 teamer today. That is late for a Portis IMO.

Absolutely... if he's there in the 5th round, it will be hard to pass him up, but I am not spending a 1st, 2nd, or even a 3rd rounder on the guy.

I don't have a hard on for Betts, I have a hard on for Betts situation.

Worst case scenario for Betts? He is used frequently to spell Portis, and comes in on passing downs. They guy is going to have 800 yds rushing (which should be 40% of the team total), He is going to catch 40-50 passes, and he will get some touchdowns along the way as well. Even under those circumstances I contend Betts will match the fantasy points of Jacobs, McAllister, Cadillac and guys in that range.

But there is always the possibility that Portis doesn't make it through the season again, and then Betts instantly becomes a top 5 back.

I ask. Are my estimations unreasonable? And if not, what's not to like about Betts?

It doesn't matter which back is more talented. Has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Don't take this the wrong way, but when you make this statement you lose a lot of credability. There is NO way in the WORLD Betts will ever be a top 5 back. That does come across as having a Betts hard on.
