Imageek
I got Alex Smith late with no legit back up so yes he is my starter. Does anyone have opinions on how you think he will do this year?

Bronco Billy
He's a pretty nice guy, but he'll sponge off the bar tab if you let him. He's not so hot on the guitar, but he does a pretty decent Rodney Dangerfield after he's been liquored up a bit.
matt770
I heard Tracy likes him but she liked Vernon Davis last week until she heard he hooked up with Cindy at Brad's party and Caitlin was like OMG Cindy is such a slut!
Bill Swerski
I wouldn't want him as a fantasy starter, but I suppose that you could do worse. I think he'll be better than last year if D-Jax can stay healthy for the majority of the season- maybe 3200/20/15.
kingfish247
24/16/3300 I like this prediction for Smith. Smith has a number of things going in his favor this year... experience, schedule, DJax, healthy V.Davis, and a well established run game. I don't see SF relying AS much upon Gore this year for the entire offense. Â I wouldn't want him as my #1 though.
Bill Swerski
Smith has a number of things going in his favor this year... experience, schedule, DJax, healthy V.Davis, and a well established run game. Â He has one other thing going for him: He's smarter than sh!t (earned his degree in two years with a 3.7 GPA, 40 on the Wonderlic). That doesn't guarantee that he'll be a high-tier NFL QB, but it helps him tremendously.
Imageek
I wasn't big on the idea of him being my starter either. I tried a new strategy this year and didn't take a QB until way late. It paid off with my receiver corp, TO, Steve Smith, Donald Driver. I hope my gamble pays off.

Last year, Gore accounted for only 1 receiving TD. Davis, as a rookie, broke his leg and caught 3.  That left 12 TDs for the likes of Eric Johnson, Battle, Bryant, Gilmore, Hicks, and some guy named Moran Norris.  I think a healthy Davis and even a limpy DJax, and let's assume DJax misses 5 games this year, can account for at least 6 more receiving TDs for Smith. Bill Swerski
I hears ya but all that lernin' didn't do him a lick a' goode in his first yeer.  Seriously, how many people could get a college degree in two years, while devoting the time needed to be a starting QB on a Division I football team... AND be able excel at both? I'm sure that his mental skills contributed significantly to him going #1 overall. Because he certainly doesn't have the physical skills of a Vince Young or a JaMarcus Russell.  Plus, I don't think that anybody would've looked good on that '04 SF offense. Yuck.  I think a healthy Davis and even a limpy DJax, and let's assume DJax misses 5 games this year, can account for at least 6 more receiving TDs for Smith.  Agreed. I think that he's going to be pretty good. Maybe not Peyton Manning good, but I could see him being the next Hasselbeck.

uh, negative. I have watched him a ton- and don't like what I see. Even with adding DJax, and having Gore- the dude is a below average NFL QB fantasy-wise - and I don't see him producing enough to warrant a start on anyone's team. Crazysight
I like everything about him this year except for those damned midget-sized hands. I wish there was something that could be done about those.

TDFFFreak
I am seriously thinking about starting Smith over Rivers for this weekend only due to the matchup the Chargers have with the Bears and the Niners with the Cards.
Square
Are there no other WW options out there? Garrard might be worth stashing on your squad just in case. I think Alex could be used as a QBBC, but you don't want to put all your eggs in his basket. Its not impossible for him to be a low end #1, but its just a bit of a gamble.
