The Cowboys are going to the Playoffs. I figure we need 10 wins, Now 9

I predict we get 12 W's

Each week I plan to breakdown the game and track the progress or regression of the Cowboys.

Week One Giants 45-35 :D

1-0 Record

1-0 Division

Injuries- Newman Out, Ellis Out, Fergy hurt in game maybe lost for season ouch...........

Offense

This was the best Offensive game of the week and the best offensive performance by a QB in the league. Tony Romo is for real. The guy just made plays all night long. His passes were on the money and always found the open man. His footwork was excellent and his throwing mechanics are much improved. One thing I noticed is he didn't just throw the ball up, either it was a perfect pass or out of reach of any defenders. He didn't force one pass tonight and did an great job freezing the safetys. No dumb throws of his back foot or getting rid of the ball just to get it out of his hands. He thought about it on that play in the Red Zone but he tucked it, when Tuck had him, which was smart, because it would have been a pick. The one pick he did throw was a great play by the defender coming from the blind flat and trailed right into the pass. It was untimely for sure but those things happen from time to time. The Giants D was horrible in coverage and way out of shape but Romo put the ball in very tight spots regardless of the weak coverage especially when he went to Witten in the flat surrounded by 4 defenders. The passes to Crayton and Hurd were perfect strikes in stride. Romo played with confidence and poise with a great killer instinct. Years past we get conservative and let the Giants come back and beat us. This game we attacked all game long and I see Romo doing this all year long..........He just knows where to go with the football and that is refreshing. Jerry better sign this kid or he is going to get very expensvie. 5 TD's in a game, that's twice now in less then 12 months. Not easy to do but glad I started him

Running Game

Julius looked solid and Barber was a beast. This two headed monster is going to be very tough to stop.

Wide Receivers

We are not going to miss a beat without Glenn. They played Rope a Dope with TO. It was beautiful. Run him off into triple coverage then when they try to stop Witten down the seem Wammo TO burns them deep. Crayton and Hurd will have solid years. Hurd will surprise teams and I picked him up on my FF team before the game. Throw Fasano in the mix and teams are going to have an impossible time figuring out how NOT to get beat. Wiiten is going to be a beast in this offense and Romo finds often.

Offensive line

The O line was just plowing the Giants off the line. The Giants D line was gassed by halftime. Part of that were the injurys to Osi and Strahan not expecting to play that long so their rotation was thrown way off, but none the less Gurode, Davis and Colombo were plowing folks. Davis was down field so many times running a guy into the ground it was funny. The line did a decent job in protection as it seemed the pass rush was just a step or two late because of solid pass blocking. Nothing like the Great Wall of China New England's line did for Brady today but soldi. Romo had a lot to do with that also, he got rid of the ball on time, and there was no standing around like I am so use to seeing from Dallas QB’s.

Defense

Now this is where we had some problems. Where do I start? The D line got gashed in the running game, the secondary got torched and where was the killer pass rush? It was Houdini disappearing way to often. It seemed as though they just don't quite get Wade's scheme yet. There was no pressure up the middle only from the outside. When they did try to rush up the middle it looked like they were running into each other. I counted at least five times Roy got stoned by Spears on a stunt and James got piled up in the middle with Canty. When Fergy went down the line seemed to be unorganized which caused great stops for no gains then wammo big gainers up the middle. No consistency at all against the run.

The secondary just looked lost. Reeves picks the ball off but would have given up another completion had Plax not fallen. Reeves played so far off he could have been eating popcorn in the stands with the fans. That touchdown to Plax over Roy was shameful. Reeves just let him go with no other responsibilities but to cover Plax on the slant. And Roy just can't play the ball in space. Of course we new that but they should have squeezed Plax on that play for sure no problem. Henry had an ok game but where in the heck was Hamlin? Newman being hurt changed this entire defensive secondary and I suspect when he gets back it will get right. I hope it's soon because the domino effect was very apparent tonight. It’s a good thing the Giants didn’t have any speed or they would have scored like 35 points or more……….. :D

The linebackers played pretty well and Spencer is going to be a beast once he gets some experience under his belt. I liked the way he held his water on the edge and was very solid is coverage. Ware was right there most of the night but should have had at least two sacks tonight.

Thank goodness we get Miami next week. Newman is gonna need more time. Ratliff looked good in Ferguson's absence, and now it appears Ferguson could be out for the year. Other than that, Phillips has tons of work to do with the defense. Was I the only one that noticed Roy Williams is the same old Roy Williams? He will never be able to cover anyone in the secondary.

  • 2 weeks later...

Week two Miami 37-20 :D:D

8 wins to go to playoff birth as Philly and Giants are slidding fast.

2-0 Record

1-0 Division

Injuries- Newman Out, Ellis Out, Fergy out for season...........

Offense

Offense was pretty good this week putting up 37 on the fish. Miami is a pretty stingy defense so being able to drop a number of points on them is saying something. Romo is not only beating team with his arm but he scrambles well and has a Farve like quality to make plays while under duress. He always keeps his eyes down field for open targets and I love that. Barber is a stud and has now convinced me that JJ is spelling Barber and not the other way around. Barber is running way to good to not be in on every critical down and distance. JJ is a 1st and 10 guy and will be traded next year unless is blows up and matches Barbers production this year. It has been 27 years since we put up this many points in a row! That's saying something..............

Wide Receivers

Crayton's finger was sick........but he went in, got it patched and came out to run back a punt 49 yards and give the team the spark it needed to finish the fish off. TO is going off and will continue to. Everyone else got shut down but that's what makes this offense so good. Just too many weapons.

Offensive line

Another great job by the O line in protection and run blocking. Taylor got no sniff of Romo and when he did was Okie Doked. The only problem was stupid penalties, false starts, and holding. Clean the penalties up and the line will be dominant.

Defense

Now the D stepped up and had 4 picks and Ratliff held his own inside at Nose Tackle. Ratliff always seems to be quick to a loose ball as he has 4 fumble recoveries. He held the point of attack pretty well and shows quickness of the ball. He can only get better and now with Tank ready to step in late in the season to spell him. I like how the D came together without Newman. Reeves had a solid outing keeping everything in front of him. Henry had his best game as a Cowboy picking off Two. Pressure is still lacking from the front 7 and Ware is getting killed by the chipping and doubling. Spencer has to step up or Ellis needs to get back soon because Ware is getting worn out by sometimes three guys.

Damn! If I knew you were giving money away! :D

:D

If you snooze....you lose!

I really don't see CHI winning unless the defense just plays out of their mind.

Their 3 pt faves @ home.....meaning even! Could be a good game as per DMD's description.
