LSU defense

12 quarters of play and they have yielded 7 points. They havnt played the best competition but 7 points? Think about the one td they gave up. It was against Va Tech on the first series by the freshman QB. He was a totally different look coming out from under center and it took LSU 1 series to sort that out and shut them right back down. I cant wait to see what they do against the better competition but right now I dont think its a stretch to say they are right at the top of the list nationally!

problem is their offense wont be up to snuff vs teams that have the same speed they do. And how is LSU going to stop the spread or quick passing game, when their pressure is obsolete, like the offense OU runs. IF OU plays LSU for the NC. I expect a route. 35-13 Sooners

I expect you will be down here to place a little wager in person.?.? I have a # of places outside of the Dome that will be alot of fun to watch that matchup. I may even be able to pull some really big strings and come up with tickets to the game!

LSU is definitely impressive, as is Oklahoma, Florida and USC. I wish they kept stats on 'first team' vs. '2nd team' Ds, due to the propensity for some teams, like USC, putting in the 2nd stringers by late 3rd/early 4th when the game is in hand.

Anyone watching the USC/Nebraska game knows the 'real score', if you will, was 49-17 when Carroll sat his starters down on both sides of the ball. It might've ended something like 63-17, but Carroll likes to get the young guys playing time, esp. on the road in loud environments. The last 2 TDs didn't count for much, but it obscures the picture a bit...

I think this weekend, LSU vs South Carolina will be a low scoring game. Our defense is pretty good, and we haven't played up to our potential yet (offensively or defensively). Hopefully Spurrier will get the best out of them at LSU, and I know the Brinkley brothers will be tearing it up though.

LSU gave up 16 pts, on drives of 12 plays, 11 plays and 11 plays. LSU had 70 total passing yards and had a fake FG for a TD to give them a 28-16 win at home. Im not the least bit impressed.

Not impressed with trick plays, even The Statue of Liberty?

Hook 'em.

Sorry we werent allowed to play Tulsa yesterday. Just curious Sgt Ryan........ Did you even watch the game or are you just looking at the box score and then spewing crap? SC played a fine game behind one of the best play calling coaches in the game and came away with a loss. That was the 12th ranked team in the nation we just played there buddy. When do your Sooners play a ranked team next? How many ranked teams will the Sooners play all season?

Ron Morris a Gamecock Columnist & Coach Spurrier seemed to be impressed with LSU defense. :D

When USC had the ball, it might as well have emptied the backfield and gone with all receivers, except that it had difficulty protecting its quarterback. USC averaged about 8 inches per carry. Its longest run was a 7-yard end around by Kenny McKinley that concluded with a lost fumble. Poor Cory Boyd. He never found a running lane and finished with 17 yards on 18 carries.

It was not the worst rushing day for a Spurrier-coached team —- that occurred in 2000 when Florida lost a net 87 yards on the ground against Mississippi State —- but it might have been one of the most frustrating.

Down 28-7 with slightly less than eight minutes remaining, Spurrier uncharacteristically opted for a field goal with the ball at the LSU 6-yard line. This from a coach who once scorned the field goal, occasionally poking fun at opponents who traded field goals for his team's touchdowns.

The reason for taking three points over a potential six or seven, and essentially conceding USC had no chance to win? Spurrier said he had no confidence his offense could gain 6 yards on any play.

"We didn't have a play we (thought) we could score with," Spurrier said. "I didn't know what to call."

I still propose the whole country starts using 'USCJr' or 'USC-2' when referring to the Gamecocks, just to avoid confusion here on the west coast....

no one cares about South Carolina- get real.

Yes, in this nation of idiots who only care about sports no one cares. I guess we need to just shut down our #1 international business program. It's not the best football program in the nation.

So, how's Arizona doing in football this year? Aww... I'd cheer for USC-West too if I cheered for Arizona, the Mexico of America. (crazy that it beats out New Mexico huh?)

Even the East coast bias doesn't change the fact that people view the REAL USC as the University of Southern California.

Ummm....a university being established 80 years before another isn't east coast biased....that's a fact, I don't think you understand the difference between fact and opinion...

:D oh brother, you Carolina kids are dense. Here's a fact for you: look at the polls all over this site - do you think one of them refers to your univ. in So. Carolina when they list 'USC' at # 1? I'm sure its nice and the girls are hot, but c'mon already. Case closed - now stop it, and go start an argument that makes sense. Before we start to think the academics there aren't so hot either....

I was talking college athletics and football, not about THE STATE dummy.

why is everyone so damn sensitive............... listen- I am sure South Carolina is a wonderful place to go school. It doesn't matter if it was founded in the 1600's - as far as this country is concerned- USC= Southern California. period. case closed.

Arizona is doing just fine thanks, football program is down- but they destroy yer Cocks with a well-rounded athletic department that finishes in the top 20 in the Sears trophy every year and has one of the best basketball programs in the country....

Yes, I am enjoying Scottsdale...errrr Mexico of America, just fine thanks........ it really sucks here.

We, since when did you become part of the team. I watched enough of the game to see the LSU offense completely sucks, and the defense will get gassed when they play a legit team. S Carolina is just the latest cupcake on the LSU schedule that was over rated before they played. Will S Carolina even make it to a New Years day Bowl, yet they were suppose to be a top 15 team, get real. Spurrior is a joke when he doesnt have superior talent. That playcalling sure was awesome at Washington wasnt it. S Carolina will be lucky to be ranked 5 spots lower than Miami when the season is over, and OU kicked the ever livin sh*t out of them. I bet Tulsa would hang 21-24 on LSU, and beat S Carolina outright.
