Just got my first smoker

I would like to break this puppy in tomorrow. I think I want to smoke a Pork Loin. What do I need? How long does it take at what temp? Just have never done this before so.....

First, Congrats. You are a wise man.

Secondly, go throw some wood in it now and get it "seasoned".

Thirdly, I've never smoked a loin, but that's the beauty with smokin - doesnt matter. Good general rules of thumb: don't break 225 degrees, 4-6 hour smoke is good for decently sized pork cut (don't put one rib on OR a whole pig on for 6 hours), serve sauce on the side because the rub you are going to make for it - grouped with your good apple, cherry, or pecan wood - is going to give all the flavor you'll want.

Hope some of this helps.

Pork loin on the Big Green Egg takes about 1.5-2 hours per pound at 220 degrees. I would imagine that if you keep your temp. similar the time would be pretty close as well.

One of the best things you can buy for smoking is a remote temperature gauge that reads smoker and meat temperature and transmits to a reciever you can bring inside. That way you don't have to walk out unless the temp is out of range or you need a beer!

You guys rock :D . The GF altered my plans a bit but I will be trying to put all this together in the morning and see if I can serve up some smoked pork between the late aft games and the sun night game! inviting my dad over for dinner. Should be fun!

My wife makes fun of me because I have one.

I usually beat her afterwards.
