Pope Flick
A blog I read occasionally has mentioned he has contacts at Halas Hall and the word is this might be the make or break game for Grossman. He hasn't ever said anything of this nature before so he doesn't have a track record but from what I've been reading at Tribune dot com that seems to be the case here. So my question is, do they go Griese or Orton? A commentor compared Grossman to Plummer which doesn't seem to far off, except for the insult to Plummer. I hate reading how they're hoping Olsen being able to play will get the offense on track. It was on track last year without him, which tells me they do feel there are definite problem afoot. I've liked how Lovie has handled the situation thus far and it will be interesting to see how he hadnles what will be the biggest decision of his coaching career should Bad Rex show up and bumble around. Puddy
I don't believe there is a big upside by moving to Orton. The Bears won despite of him IMO a couple of years ago. Griese would be a better short-term solution. However he ISN'T the answer long-term. The Bears made the Superbowl last year and have an excellent opportunity again in the weak NFC. I think Griese is the best option to get them there this year. Of course, i hope they stick with Grossman as a Lions fan

gilthorp
It would be Griese, not Orton. I don't believe they even had Orton activated last week. If this blogger has inside information, it's got to be fairly secret. There's not inclination that this is a make or break game for Grossman. I do believe that the coaches would like to see the OL and the RB's be able to slow down the jail break before they determine where Rex is in his development this year. It's easy to say the Rex hasn't gotten better from last year, but it's only two games, and the deep ball he had in 06' has been non existant this year. Against SD, I think he got rattled quickly, and never recovered. Against KC, the line and the RB's did him no favors. With Olsen, they had him in some of their most intriguing packages, even with Hester on the field with him, so getting him in there was in fact holding them back from getting creative. Make no mistake about it, though...they still are a run first team, but they can be explosive in the air. Griese would limit that potential, but I have the feeling we're going to see him this year if Rex falters...unlike last year.
CD6405
Grossman won't be pulled. He is a white quarterback, he isn't scrutinized like McNabb...Grossman has atleast 3 more years to get it right.

Agreed. I think Lovie and Co are looking for game management more than anything else and this Griese can do. I still think Grossman can be a good QB but there are a whole raft of inner demons plaguing him,. especially uncertainty and lack of confidence. They are continuing to load up on the defensive side, their window will be longer than usual on that side. Signing their CB's was huge and they'll get Harris in the fold too. So, Rex is up for a new contract after this year...there's no babying him once he crosses that line. If he doesn't get going, he will be hitting the streets. Enough will be enough. Big Score 1
If Rex could just cut down on his mistakes, history (2000 Baltimore Ravens for example) has shown us that a great D can carry a conservative offense to a Superbowl victory. If Rex remains turn over prone & the Coaches make a change @ QB, Griese would be the logical choice.

Yeah, yeah I know..."I'm Sexy Rexy, F'it, I gonna thow the Bomb cause that's what cool QB's do & I'm Sexy Rexy."
Jumbie
Lovie has a history of dividing the season into 4, 4 game segments. I think that he will give Grossman through the fourth game and then assess the options.
