CaptainHook
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward has a sprained knee and is doubtful for Sunday's game at Arizona. Ward has missed only three games due to injury in 10 NFL seasons, and Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday he hasn't ruled Ward out of the game. Ward, injured during a 37-16 victory over San Francisco on Sunday, walked without a limp while reporting to a team meeting Monday, but was on crutches later in the day. Ward was injured while he was the intended receiver on consecutive plays during a Steelers drive early in the third quarter. He had one reception before getting hurt, extending the four-time Pro Bowl receiver's streak to 136 consecutive games with at least one catch. darin3
MRI was negative. I wouldn't be shocked to see his status upgraded by Thursday-Friday and perhaps see him start come Sunday.

If he doesn't, does it make a difference for Holmes? Or will more looks just translate into more coverage and therefore a wash at best? abishagenaden
If he doesn't, does it make a difference for Holmes? Or will more looks just translate into more coverage and therefore a wash at best? I would think Holmes would be a better play without Ward in the mix. Just ever so slightly, though. Another thing to consider is that Holmes won't take over Ward's flanker position (I think Nate Washington will).
max
I would also think that Heath Miller would also get several more balls thrown his way if Ward isn't able to go.
loaf
I'm surprised that opposing defenses haven't caught on yet. McParker to the right. McParker to the left. McMiller down the middle. McParker to the left. Touchdown McSpaeth. Cant' argue with results though...
max
Another point supporting Miller's possiblity of getting more passes is that Steelers TE's have accounted for 4 of Ben's 6 TD passes this season. I haven't seen TE's this involved in the Steelers offense since the Eric Green days.

CowboysDiehard
Nate Washington has definite upside if Hines is out.
ethnics
I think that S. Holmes value will be higher with Ward IN the game this week. If he does play, he may be limited and Ben will look towards holmes more anyway. Ward can draw coverage away from Santonio. If Ward is out, the secondary will key in on Santonio and Miller. Or maybe the Steelers will actually start some other WR in Ward's place...... Of course they will key in on Holmes and Miller, but they won't be the only WR on the field. After Miller, Santonio is the next best option.
kingfish247
After Miller, Santonio is the next best option. Santonio is their best option via the pass (IMO) but so far everyone else has been open versus some weak opponents. Ben and the O has capitalized on what Ds are giving them... namely Parker and everyone besides Holmes/Ward. Eventually Ds will realize they need to stop Parker and Miller which should only help balance the coverages making it more likely the WRs will see single coverage. jjpro11
washington would take over ward's flanker position and holmes will stay in his same position.
abishagenaden
Looks like Ward is officially out. Still not yet sure if that's good or bad news for Santonio owners.

Skippy
Word on local radio is that Ward has not been officially ruled out for this game but that they really don't see him playing. Nate Washington will get the start in Wards place if Ward is for sure out. (I think he is for sure out but they just won't say for sure.) I very much agree. Let him rest and get healthy. I think if we had started the season any other way than 3-0 they might push him a little more but now it makes no sense to me.
