LJ

I have a chance to acquire LJ this week. But I'm not sure he's goung to bounce back. Everyone writes about his easy upcoming schedule and how the Chiefs need to ride after paying him the big bucks. I'm not convinced. I like the "sound" of LJ on my roster. Just not sure if he's gonna be any better than he's been this season. And now he's got the holdout hammy to boot. Anyone have thoughts or feelings on this? Thanks.

I was just offered LJ for Steven Jackson, so I am wondering the same thing. Schedule looks formidable, with few breaks until the end. Bad year to be a Chief. Other thoughts?

As an LJ owner, my only advice to all of you is to avoid at all costs...we want to get rid of him for a reason!

Well I must be in the minority, all homerism aside, his schedule eases up starting next week and he will get it going with 6 home games in weeks 5-13. I would have traded Portis for him in a second.

The Rooks Lynch and Peterson are starting for him on my team, but I'm not about to let him go. This year has been so hard to predict from a RB perspective. Everything is generally inconsistent. QBs and WRs have been the pot of gold. LJ is bound to turn it around and be a top 10 back when the schedule gets a bit easier. NOT TOP 3 but TOP 10 and that is a keeper in my book.

Don't forget, he IS a monster

As would I, but that has more to do with Portis being an injury-prone RBBC guy than anything else.

LJ will improve this year, but I'd really temper expectations with this guy. I'm thinking that he'll be in the Thomas Jones/Rudi Johnson category by the end of the year.

Believe me, I understand where you guys are coming from with that, and I almost did it.

But... but... but... Portis has a touchdown in every game so far, seems to be healthy finally (after not playing in the preseason maybe?), and Ladell Betts' carries have gone down as Portis' numbers have gone up.

Heck, the funny part is that I didn't even want Portis. Had him last year, and got burned by his injuries. Was definitely going to avoid him this year. But the dude was still sitting there in the 7th round, and I couldn't resist. A totally lucky move for me, too - my RB2, Jones-Drew, is killing me!

All I'm saying, and I'm just sayin', is that for now, my gut says keep Portis over Johnson.

Portis' yds/carry is much higher than Betts' at this point, and that may garner him more carries. I don't know.

Well, I just turned down the following trade: LJ, Santonio Holmes and Bulger for Randy Moss, Benson and Jeff Garcia.

Seems like a steal on paper as Moss is tearing it up. BUT, our goal is to win championships right? LJ has a very easy schedule in the playoff weeks and Moss might be resting alot after the Pats wrap up the home field advantage. Unless Pats are going for the undefeated record, I think Randy might disappoint.

Benson is a bust. Its also a keeper league and I have LJ at a very low price and would be shooting myself in the foot for next year.

Verdict: I can win with LJ this year (currently im using LJ as my 3rd RB behind MBIII) and he should be back in a big way next year.

Won't he still be facing 8-NFL-type men in the box every week, and still rushing behind that decaying OL, with no passing game to speak of?

Until one of those three things changes, he's yours...I

Not if they change the offensive Philosophy which Huard, LJ and TG are asking for. I could be wrong, you could be wrong, one things for sure, we'll find out soon enough.

Just as important as the schedule is having Huard and Bowe start to develop a rapport. If they can get some kind of receiving threat into that offense, maybe they can loosen something up. Huard has to show he has the arm to get it downfield, and Bowe has to show that he can reel it in. The defense can still stack up and take care of Gonzo over the middle, so it has to be Bowe.

I was offered LJ for SJax too... hours before the story broke about his groin.

I declined it shortly after I received the offer, also before the story broke. Logic: why exchange one top pick headache with another top pick headache?

I would take that trade again in a second.

Herman Edwards change his offensive philosophy? Maybe when he gets reincarnated as a ping pong player/coach in the next lifetime, but not now, not this year, not untill he's pushing up daisies and dreaming of defensive touchdowns and short fields for the offense.

Just had a flashback.... Wayne Chrebet said that his mom knew what the next offensive play call would be when Edwardo was still in NY. She probably still does, if she's watching the Chiefs.

How bad is LJs hammy..KC Homers does it look like he is playing this week ?

All i've heard is he's sat out practice the last two days with a tweaked hammy, he'll play for sure as far as I know. This is a big game this week for them.

Here ya go Whomp:

Chiefs' Larry Johnson misses second straight practice with sore hamstring

Story by The Associated Press

6:05 p.m. Thursday, September 27, 2007

This afternoon, star Chiefs Running Back Larry Johnson missed practice for the second consecutive day and is now listed as questionable for Sunday's game in San Diego.

Johnson is nursing what the team calls a slightly pulled hamstring. The 27-year old Johnson in three games this year has carried the ball 50 times for an average of just 2.8 yards per carry. He has yet to score a touchdown.

"It's not so bad where he can't run. I mean it's sore, and what we don't want to do is obviously put him in a position where he really hurts his hamstring and guys have sore hamstrings at times and we are trying to rest him," Edwards said.

Michael Bennett says he's ready to fill in for Johnson on Sunday, but he expects Johnson to be at full strength. Bennett has carried only 16 times for 45 yards for the Chiefs (1-2), and also has a 2.8-yard average.

Kickoff in San Diego set for 3:15 Central Time.

...and it is because of this uncertainty, even from fans of the team, why I wouldn't trade for him.

He has upside for sure, but I wouldn't give anything of value to an LJ owner on the hope that Herm MIGHT change the offensive philosophy he currently employs, and has employed for years.
