# of Trades Down?

I am in three leagues (two locals, 1 BOTH), and amazingly, in all three, not one trade has been consumated...not one.

I wondered why that might be, and came to these conclusion:

1. Most studs have been far from studly (Gore, LJ, Sjax, etc.), and owners who want them aren't offering much, and owners who own them don't want to give up on them.

2. Fringe players playing well. Guys like Jordan and Welker and performing far above expectations, and their value is difficult to gauge. No one wants to overpay for an early-season stallion, only to see them turn into a donkey.

Is it just my leagues, or are trades down all over?

This is kinda ironic, my co-worker was just talking about how I had just made a trade and it was only the second trade in the league this season. I hadn't noticed, but your reasoning seems to make pretty good sense. I think another reason may simply be that league-wide fantasy football knowledge is increasing, which has led to far fewer "bad" trades.

I haven't completed any trades myself. I keep getting offers like

Shaun Alexander, Boldin and the Houston D for Addai and Owens. Sure, I'm gonna downgrade at both RB and WR. Thanks but no thanks. This is the second offer the guy has sent for Owens. The first was more laughable. Kitna and Owens for Calvin Johnson and Delhomme. :D

Not sure about all over but the lack of serious trade dialogue is killing me in one league.

I think some guys are a bit on auto-pilot because they're doing well DESPITE having little to no depth. Couple it with the fact that a lot of guys are injured so owners are not looking to make serious moves.

I was offered Torry Holt for AD the other day... yeah, I lost AJ for the next few weeks BUT SJax is also out. Ok great, now I have Holt BUT my starting RBs would then be Lendale, Norwood, and Aaron Stecker :D

Another good one for AD the other day was Brandon Jackson and Boldin... again, so my starting RBs will be B.Jackson, Lendale, Norwood, or Stecker until, or IF, SJax comes back :D x2

I have made 3 trades this season. Two of them before the season even started.

League A

Trade 1 (Prior to season):

Give: Cedric Benson and Matt Hasselback

Get: Javon Walker and Drew Brees

Prior to the season, you would think that was a pretty even deal with the hype Brees was getting.

Trade 2 (After week 1):

Give: Javon Walker and Selvin Young

Get: Lamont Jordan and Donte Stallworth

Stallworth was just a fill. Lamont is the one I was after all along. Got deep at receiver and sured up my RB trilogy with Lamont

Record in League A: 1-2 (on the rise)

League B

Trade 1 (Prior to season):

Give: Edge

Get: R. Moss and Caddy

Liked what Moss was saying to the media and had a feeling he would be the man there. Edge was my #3 RB and I figured I could roll with 2 RBs and 4 WR if I had too using a WR as a flex instead of a RB.

Record in League B: 3-0.. Having some injury issues, but looking like I can pull through it.

So, I have been very active thus far..

There have been zero trades of consequence in either of my leagues. I have been throwing out some lopsided offers (in thier favor) and still am getting turned down (I have a RB bye week issue). Like D. Williams and a mid tier reciever for MJD, Deuce (bet hes wishing he had pulled the trigger), Norwood, Marooney, all pretty much #2 guys on an RBBC team. I dont get it.

down in mine too. I offered Bulger and Jurevicius to a guy for Garrard and Davenport and he turned it down. I said "you know Davenport is a backup RB right?" He said Bulger isnt worth a backup RB.

Oh my.

i think it must be the new wave of ff players. im in a steady league every year where we all know each other and there are trades, but im in 2 more where we don't. in those 2 not one trade has been made but i have been offered about 15 different trades. every one is terribly one sided. none of these guys will trade unless they gut someone. they don't seem to understand a win/win situation.

theres a dude who has no starting runningback this wee(possibly every week)k because s.jax and deuce got hurt, and his fred taylo/ladell betts backups are on a bye..so i offered maroney and cotchery for betts and roy williams. fair enough, especialy considering the situation and dude wrote me back yelling that im trying to humiliate him..

other than that

asking bush for roddy white

asking donald driver for santana moss(injured moss to boot)

asking bush and j.walker for matt leinart and bernard berrian

its madness, i drafted for depth in the league and its going to go to waste, im 5 solid rb's deep and 5 out of 12 teams are starting the second in a rbbc or worse and i cant even sniff a fair trade.

I'm in a 16 team league and offered a guy that has Justin Fargas :D as his RB2 and Grossman/Smith as his QB options Anderson, D. Williams, Texans D for Smith, Fargas and Bears D. Keep in mind he also has the Packers D so he could afford the hit at D and would seriously upgrade his RB and QB situations. Liek someone else said before, "win-win" is a bygone concept.

It is the "new wave" of FF players. Earlier this week, I was offered:

Cooley (on Bye this week) for A. Gates, straight up. (To add insult, I don't even have a backup TE to start this week if I were dumb enough to take that!)

So I countered with my K. Curtis for Roy Williams. (Only 1 point apart in our league.) His response: "Do you think I'm stupid?" :D

Obviously I was willing to negotiate, and tried to get closer to a deal, but he didn't see it that way. And, I'm 2-1 and he is 0-3, so not like I need to trade w/him.

THAT's why there is less trading, IMO. There is less thinking.

I've made so many trades this year, I've lost track. But I have to admit, myself and/or one other owner have been in every trade in our league so far. What I find, is that most of the owners are willing to trade, but not to do the work of figuring out the trade. Which actually gives the proposing player some advantages :D

In my league, I've made the only trade. I gave up Harrison, Dunn, and D. Ward for Maroney, Bush, and S. Holmes. The problem with my league, is it's a local league from a jewish youth group, with a rabbi as the commish. This year, we got a new rabbi, a couple of kids went off to college, and we let in players who didn't really even want to. One person has had DeDe Dorsey starting all year over Deuce, because her and several other players (including one veteran, which is unusual) haven't even logged in yet. I've made the second most WW/FA moves with 8, with the top being only 11. Even being dead last in the Waiver Order, I got Fred Taylor and Kevin Jones this week. It's nice being tied for first, but it's taking away some of the fun.

there has been just 1 trade in my 14 team home league so far

Kevin Curtis for Devery Henderson in week 1

needless to say the guy who traded curtis is kicking himself right now.

its very difficult to get trades done this year also, the values that are put on players that arnt performing varies so much from what you want to offer that trades will never get done.

I'll give you a example

I offered Adrian Peterson for Donald Driver

we start 1 rb and 3 wrs , I have 4 rbs so i can deal peterson for the upgrade.

the guy with Driver countered with

Peterson / Chambers for Driver and Vincient Jackson
