A Peterson / Taylor

The only problem with this statement is that Chester did not pass block. He went on pass routes!!!! IN fact a couple of times they went with an empty backfield.

Peterson ran a couple of routes and on 2 occasions he was in single coverage with a LB and Holcomb forced the ball elsewhere.

How'd you like that play when the Pack defenders jumped off sides and then the Vikes hiked the ball about 7 seconds later when they were back in position? They have obviously given up on the coach and the only person that doesn't know it is Childress.

Which was aslo the play that Holcomb forced the ball inside (during the last minute) and it was intercepted. It looked like Holcomb actually waited for them get back onside!

So far through 4 games, he has touched the ball 45% of the plays (I did not count incomplete passes). You give hime the ball any more times, he is going to be dead by week 8. I am not complaining about his workload.

negative-

AP is a stud, is young and can handle more touches. Besides- 2 crucial drives and he is on the sideline- ridiciulous. NFL running backs have a short shelf life, he is READY-

give a special back like AP the rock, and let him do his thing.

Did you watch the game? Giving the ball to Peterson is NOT going to help this team win when your down by 13 points in the 4th QTR with 6 minutes to go. You need to pass the damn ball. The offensive line sucks bad. Bryant Mckinnie got burned numerous times. The QB play sucks. For the second week in a row. Holcomb missed TD throw. Winning cures everything, having the lead in the third and 4th Qtr would help so you can pound the ball with Peterson.

jeezus dude- yeah I watched the game- give/get - whatever I mean touches, swing passes. not just talking running plays only. He is a weapon out of the backfield in the passing game for sure.

Hello? Adrian was averaging something like 15-16 yards per touch on runs and kick returns. You do what you have to to get him the ball. He is the only gamebreaker on this team right now. I'll put the game on the line in this rookie's hands over Kelly Holcomb and his WR's anyday.

Sidney Rice might develop into a pretty darn good receiver one day though.

"According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Adrian Peterson was on the field for 24 of the Vikings' 65 offensive snaps Sunday.

He took the handoff on half of those snaps, rushing for 112 yards, yet saw little work after halftime and was on the sidelines late. Chester Taylor was in for 40 of the Vikings' 65 offensive plays, with Taylor and Peterson in the same backfield together once."

No question The Vikings had to air the ball out...but, come on.....24 vs 40 plays in favor of Chester? That is just stupid.

Back to the point... Major Dad is an idiot.

In a game where you were averaging ~7yds per carry, the teams are even in yards/turnovers/penalties... 6-8 more plays with 4-5 more touches for a player like AD can make all the difference. After GB's first possession of the 2nd half and making it 13-6, AD received 4 touches :D Ahhh but that kickoff return duty really got us back into the game.

Here's a very telling series of how Major Dad calls a game... score, 13-9. Vikes force a punt with about 1 minute left in the 3rd quarter. Your RBs have attempted 21 rushes for an average of ~7yds per carry. You might be Major Dad if you mix it up with Peterson? Nope, Major Dad goes the less obvious route of dialing up plays for Kleinsasser and Ferguson...

1-10-MIN 7 (1:04) 28-A.Peterson up the middle to MIN 9 for 2 yards (74-A.Kampman).

2-8-MIN 9 (:28) 13-K.Holcomb pass incomplete short left to 40-J.Kleinsasser (77-C.Jenkins).

3-8-MIN 9 (:24) (Shotgun) 13-K.Holcomb pass incomplete short right to 89-R.Ferguson.

4-8-MIN 9 (:19) (Punt formation) PENALTY on MIN-46-C.Loeffler, False Start, 5 yards, enforced at MIN 9 - No Play.

4-13-MIN 4 (:18) 5-C.Kluwe punts 46 yards to 50, Center-46-C.Loeffler. 21-C.Woodson pushed ob at MIN 35 for 15 yards (21-M.Doss).

Vikes get the ball back with 12:44 left in the 4th, down 16-9... more offensive genius. If you're Major Dad, you go sweep right with Taylor b/c they're expecting anything from Peterson...

1-10-GB 48 (12:33) 29-C.Taylor right end to MIN 43 for -9 yards (51-B.Poppinga).

2-19-MIN 43 (11:51) (Shotgun) 13-K.Holcomb pass incomplete short right to 28-A.Peterson.

3-19-MIN 43 (11:46) (Shotgun) 13-K.Holcomb pass short middle to 29-C.Taylor to GB 46 for 11 yards (21-C.Woodson).

4-8-GB 46 (11:11) 5-C.Kluwe punts 31 yards to GB 15, Center-46-C.Loeffler. 21-C.Woodson ran ob at GB 18 for 3 yards.

From the Star Tribune :D

Jim Souhan: Vikings wasting Peterson's talent

The most skilled player on the team is being underutilized. The quickest fix for a team falling fast would be to use that quick first-round pick more.

By Jim Souhan, Star Tribune

Brad Childress came to Minnesota as an offensive guru. Suddenly, he's a defensive genius. Who other than The Chiller could put Adrian Peterson in a deep freeze?

NFL defenses have failed. In Peterson's first four games, he's rushed 76 times for 383 yards, a 5.0-yard average. Think what he could do if he touched the ball more than Cullen Loeffler.

...

They won't even use him as a closer. Last week, with the Vikings needing a field goal to tie Kansas City, they left Peterson on the sideline for their last drive, and were thwarted. Sunday, with the Vikings needing a touchdown to tie Green Bay, they left Peterson on the sideline for the last drive and -- stop me if you've heard this one -- were thwarted.

Peterson is their leading rusher by a margin of 312 yards, and their second-leading receiver with 166 yards. He has two of the team's four offensive touchdowns. Yet the Vikings' method of getting him the ball more is having him return kickoffs.

"We're trying to give them plays that they look at well, and obviously Adrian was contributing on kickoff returns," Childress said. "That's what I love about this football team -- it's an unselfish football team."

Here's what the Vikings need: More selfishness, as long as it's Peterson demanding the ball.

Instead of acknowledging Peterson as the budding star he is, and Chester Taylor as a quality backup, Childress named Taylor his starter for Sunday's game. Even more alarming than that announcement was the realization that Childress was telling the truth.

Peterson had four more rushes than Taylor, and Taylor did break a 37-yard run, but there's no comparison here. Take out Peterson's 55-yard run, and he still moved the pile, rushing 11 times for 55 yards. Take out Taylor's big run, and he rushed seven times for three yards.

Yet, on Sunday, Peterson participated on only 38 percent of the Vikings' plays from scrimmage. This is like saving Johan Santana for the seventh inning, like holding Marian Gaborik out until the third period.
