Panthers backfield

Does anyone who watches teh Panthers on a regular basis or knows Fox's coaching style think he will make the Foster/Williams switch this year? Foster had 17 touches and 43 yards (2.1ypc) and Williams had 10 touches for 121 (12ypc). For the year Foster is at around 4ypc and Williams is at around 6ypc. Is Foster getting the more difficult early game carries? It seems liek this question has been in the air for years now with Foster stealing carries from Davis and now Williams. Whats the deal?

No.

Fox has shown for an extended period that talent, performance on the field, and ability mean little to him, whereas...whereas..., well, I don't really know what his decision making process is for choosing a starting RB. I do know that Williams has shown himself to be a far superior pro RB than even a healthy Foster - and a healthy Foster is almost an oxymoron.

I'm glad that I'm not a Williams owner in any league, but I do think it's a damn shame to see talent like his bottled up for what appears to be some kind of peculiar coaching decision based upon who-knows-what.

Was that 120 yards a product of one or two big runs, or was it a consistent average all day? I should have told everyone I was dropping him in frustration last week in one league - and he was a keeper for next season. Presto! 120 yards and the new questions! This is such a frustrating year. At least I held on to him in another league, just in case. Would like to hear the real story on that game, though.

I didnt watch it but I know he had one 75 yard run. I started him this week because of the Kevin Jones bye.

I watched the entire game and it was late in the game and the Cards were overplaying the run since we were up 18-10 and they had to stop us to get the ball back. DW hit a crack on the left and was off to the races. He then finished up the drive with the TD. I think it is nearly time for Fox to give DW a shot to be the #1 guy with Foster spelling him. Foster almost lost another fumble, but the Panther's won the challenge when the replay showed Foster's elbow on the ground prior to the ball popping out of his hand.

DW has better big play ability compared to Foster, but it seems pretty clear to me that DW is the better run and the better receiver as well. Wish that Fox would give the kid a chance....

Great insight, thanx! :D

Before this week I owned him in 2 leagues. I finally cut bait with him in one league and still have him in the other. I am undecided if I want to attempt to get him back off of waivers ... although it is likely I am too deep in the order to get him.

I think the entire offense is starting to shift, as, I truly beleive that Vinny and DeAngelo are the way to go now. Carr avoided Vinny yesterday after the final offensive possesion. There was a very small camp around Carr, while the majority of the team was elated by and for Vinny. Fox has an out with Foster ala the fumble problems, but this two weeks most likely will be spent re-tooling the offense. I'd like to see DeAngelo get at least 50% of the totes and Vinny over center when the Mighty Colts come to town.

Why would anyone think this would change at this point?? For whatever reason, the Panthers do not like to play DeAngelo Williams, period. An absolute joke. They wouldn't want any big plays or to score any points or anything like that, that would be bad.

Is this the Warrick Dunn/ Jerius Norwood thread?

Same thing IMO.

one really big run and one sort of big run both at the very end of the game. Foster has been getting pretty much all the carries that matter and I would be surprised to see Williams take over any time soon.

Yes, it will be interesting to see what Cowher does with a healthy Delhomme, Smith, Williams and a DT with Peppers and Beason next season. The Panthers DT is playing much better since the Jenkins call-out and Beason taking over at MLB. This team would be scary with Cowher at the helm.

I agree with several things here.

1.) Beason has done a great job at MLB since switching over two weeks ago when Dan was unable to play yet again. If Morgan is able to play after the bye, Beason will switch back to WLB, when Dan is able to play. However, Dan will be a roster cut in the offseason as he simply can't stay healthy and he is one more concussion from having to retire. Beason is the future at MLB and looks to be a very good one.

2.) I think Fox is still on the hot seat as the performance at home recently has been horrid. We haven't won a game at home since last November when we blanked the Rams 15-0. Should this need not able able to win in front of the home fans, many PSL owners will be ready for Jerry to make the change and with Cowher sitting in Raleigh he would be a great guy for this team. We need to win at home, end of the story or this team will not go anywhere and Fox will be out.

3.) Foster signed a 3 year contract several years ago so he will likely play out his contract, but I just don't see him with the team after next season. If DW doesn't get more and more playing time during this year, the new coach will likely install DW as the starter and it would really help the offense to have another threat outside SS.
