READY TO GO

By John Oehser - Colts.com

Colts Safety Sanders, Others, Expected to Practice This Week, Dungy Says

INDIANAPOLIS - As far as Bob Sanders can tell, the plan worked.

The bye week has come and gone, as has the week of a 33-14 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

With eight days remaining before the Colts' next game – a Monday Night divisional showdown in Jacksonville – the Colts’ Pro Bowl safety said Monday afternoon he plans to practice this week in preparation for the team’s game against the Jaguars on October 22.

“I’m feeling good,” Sanders said as the AFC South-leading Colts (5-0) prepared to play the Jaguars (4-1) in a Monday Night Football game at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium on Monday at 8:30 p.m.

“I’m supposed to be going out this week, practicing, so I’m looking forward to it.”

Sanders was among several players who missed the Colts’ victory over Tampa Bay with injuries sustained the week before against Denver.

The others:

Wide receiver Marvin Harrison (knee), running back Joseph Addai (chest), tight end Ben Utecht (concussion), linebacker Freddy Keiaho (concussion) and kick returner T.J. Rushing (hamstring).

Head Coach Tony Dungy said he expected all will practice when the Colts begin full-scale preparations for Jacksonville Thursday.

“I think by Thursday we should have just about everybody back,” Dungy said. “Our plan is we should have everybody back practicing.”

Sanders missed 12 regular-season games a year ago, and said the hope was that if he didn’t play against the Buccaneers, the three weeks between the Broncos game and the Jacksonville game would provide adequate rest.

“Actually, last week was pretty good – to take the week off and kind of heal up the little bumps and bruises here and there,” Sanders said. “We’re looking forward to just getting back in there and getting back in the meeting room and starting all over.

“That was the plan, actually – to be able to come back this week. That’s why I took the extra week off – just to make sure everything was OK and I’d be able to come back this week.”

HAPPY HOMECOMING: The bye week was everything Colts backup running back Kenton Keith anticipated.

Keith said last week he was looking forward to the bye because it would give him a chance to return to his hometown of Omaha, Neb., for the first time since he joined the Colts as a free agent this past off-season.

It gave him something else:

A first-hand look at NFL notoriety.

Keith, who spent four seasons in the Canadian Football League, made the Colts this preseason. A week before the bye, he started against Tampa Bay, and rushed for 121 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries.

“It was totally different,” Keith said. “Everybody had been watching me, which was pretty astounding. Everybody knows me now and everybody’s looking up to me. Everybody’s finally getting to see what I can do. Being up in Canada, it was kind of hard to see what I was going through. I’d come home and people would day, 'You’re looking good. You still playing football?’ People would think I was till in college.

“Everybody watches the NFL, so everybody knows what I’m doing.”

While conducting television interviews Monday, Keith wore a white T-Shirt that read, “I Love Omaha.”

COLTS VERSUS COLTS: The Colts on Monday – as they did last week – again practiced mainly against themselves rather than preparing for Jacksonville, Dungy said.

The players will be off Tuesday and Wednesday, with preparations for Jacksonville beginning full-scale on Thursday.

“We’re trying to get some things grooved, different situations,” Dungy said.

STREAKING: The Colts will enter the Jaguars game with a 10-game winning streak, their fourth winning streak of eight or more games since October of 2004.

The Colts won the regular-season finale last season, then won all four postseason games before starting this season 5-0.

The Colts had an eight-game winning streak in 2004, then won their first 13 games of the 2005 season and their first nine games of the 2006 season.

“I hope we don’t ever take that for granted,” Dungy said. “It’s just not something I’ve been around in all the places that I’ve been. It takes work and it takes good players and good preparation. That’s what we’ve had and that’s what you have to continue to do if you want to keep going.”

Said defensive tackle Raheem Brock, “We just take it game by game. We don’t try to look ahead. We try to go out there and get better each week.”

PENALTY-FREE: The Colts, after ranking 16th and 17th in the NFL in penalties early in the season, have improved in that area in recent weeks, and are now tied for fourth in the NFL in fewest penalties with 20.

“It’s something we talked about after Week 2 or Week 3,” Dungy said. “Our goal is always to be in the Top 5. We didn’t really get it corrected the first two weeks. We talked about it, worked on it, and you just have to make a conscious effort. You give good teams too many chances, you’re not going to be successful.”

The Colts primarily focus on pre-snap penalties such as offsides, formations, false starts, etc., Dungy said.

“If you can eliminate those, that’s half the battle,” Dungy said.

Glad to see that everybody's (likely) going to be playing next Monday.

I'm still concerned about Sanders over the long-term, though. While I love what he does on the field, dude gets banged up A LOT. Methinks that Clark will be the one getting the long-term deal at the end of this season and that Sanders will get franchise-tagged.

Besides being the huddle idiot savant... you might want to look at some box scores the past several meetings, momo.

Idiot savant? :D

I say not against the Jaguars and this is your response? This time when they get beat come in here and admit the better team won. You never do that when they lose.

Colts have won 3 of last 4 meetings.

4 of the last 6 meetings.

And 9 of their 12 meetings overall.

As long as Del Rio is at the helm, and you have tissue paper soft WR's like Matt Jones (did anybody else see him Sunday? EMBARRASSING!) the Colts need not fear the Jags.

This is at least the 2nd time you have posted this, you even made a thread about it. Here is a little hint... this is not news, nor anything but common knowledge for just about anyone who has watched football the past 2 years. Sorry to burst your bubble of supposed huge earth shattering news breaker, but you're gonna need to try harder.

You're only as good as your last game... 44-17 sound familiar?

the Colts need not fear the Jags.

Really? Vegas disagrees... -3 is the spread.

On paper, the colts are a much better team than the Jags. No one will argue that. But only one team can win, and the Jags are a team who can handle them no problem if they play their game. Winner of this game will lead the division. The Jags will dress in Black, it will be their biggest game in at least 7 years, they know they can win, and they'll want to hurt peyton. They will come ready to play.

So I hope the colts are as confident as you, cause they are gonna get punched in the mouth and we'll see if manning cries to the refs every play or just every other play. I'll be surprised if manning can even finish the game.

This is the game of the week for sure. Ii think this is going to be a great game and I could see the ho hum not spectacular at anything Jags win this one. I am hoping for Manning and Harrison to have a bad week, and that will be good for my FF teams :D

The Jags are going to run and run some more.

Typical talk from H8. But just like his Jags, they rarely back it up.

My point about Matt Softy Jones? The reason why the Jags aren't any better is POOR DRAFTING. Leftwich, Williams, Jones. . .

You know he won't hide (if the Jags lose) but will come in here and compliment the Colts like he always does. :D

You asked me to bet $50 bucks on overall record. I told you that I don't bet.

Who is lulu by the way?

You talk up the Jags, and talk about how they will do this or that, and then when they get swept by the Texans, or lose to the Colts, you are mysteriously absent from the boards for a few weeks. Kinda like week one, when the Titans went INTO Jacksonville and rolled all over their big bad defense. Oddly, you didn't post in this time frame. Coincidence? :D

lol, week one I was in vegas nimrod, sorry I was having such a good time drafting in the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP OF FANTASY FOOTBALL I couldn't find a pc and come post about that one game.

I am never absent after a loss d00sh breath, do I need to list all the action me and some non-cowards have had the past few years over Jags games? You and your gf lulu are the ones discounting the Jags, win or lose they will make it a game, and you cannot even acknowledge that, coward or not, that simply makes you football stupid. 44-17

These division rivals know each other very well and this will be a very important game in the AFC South race. The Colts are coming off a bye and will be well-rested, while the Jaguars are coming off a physical pounding of Houston that put them at 4-1 and in the thick of the playoff race. This is a fascinating contrasts in styles. Indianapolis will try to out-scheme (thats code for girl and ghey) Jacksonville with QB Peyton Manning's pre-snap adjustments and movement, along with its small but athletic defense, while Jacksonville will simply try to punch the Colts in the mouth and dominate them physically on both sides of the ball. As good as Indianapolis is, it will still need its "A game" to win in Jacksonville.
