Atlanta Cracker
I mean, the Falcons team is essentially the same as the past couple of years with the exception of Vick. How he managed to drag them to victory even as much as he did is really quite amazing as I think back. I enjoyed watching him play but I don't think I truly appreciated the way he changed defensive gameplans and still was able to put the team on his back multiple times. I'm finding it hard at this point to hold out hope that the core players the Falcons currently have assembled have any shot of looking like a real football team. Imagine what Vick may have done on a team that had a modest level of NFL talent! Too bad he played for the Falcons and too bad he was/is a momotard. Bronco Billy
The ownership/coaching wrecked the franchise trying to accomodate his incredible lack of passing ability while emphasizing his running ability. The reason ATL is so bad right now as opposed to some other weakened franchises is that they have to retool their team to compete as a normal NFL offense. That they sold out the entire franchise to a turd of such immense proportions instead of either teaching him to function capably as a NFL QB or change to a position more condusive of his skill set is truly sad. I'm by no means giving the ownership/management a pass. Quite the opposite. It's hard to believe that they could accumulate so many players incapable of playing on any other NFL team. To me, that makes the fact that Vick was able to get wins that much more impressive. I dunno somewhere in the mysery of watching this team I was trying to think of a bright spot. Unfortunately the best I could come up with was our FORMER idiot quarterback who was fast.

I dunno......watching Morten Anderson kick a 47 yarder at his age, when everyone KNOWS he can't kick it longer than 35, was pretty special. BTW AC....I nearly had a heart attack in our match last night when MFL originally gave that TD to Dunn. I seriously thought you had me beat in that match. Thanks for kick-starting my adrenaline for the week.

Caveman_Nick
I mean, the Falcons team is essentially the same as the past couple of years with the exception of Vick. FishFreak
The true measure of a QB to a team is his winning percentage. Vick clearly had passing flaws but he brought excitement and a good winning percentage to a crappy franchise. This team clearly wanted to prove they weren't a one man show after his charges but clearly they are demonstrating they were definately a one man show. The offense is boring with no play makers and Harrington is running a ineffective short passing game even though his stats are decent. This franchise could be 3-5 years away from contending again. Thier roster is absolutely awful!

I don't know that I'd say that - I mean, it's pretty apparent that the WRs they brought in were/are pretty lacking whether it's Vick or Harrington throwing balls at their feet. But consensus generally is that when a team brings in a new coaching staff, you lose that season as the players learn new schemes. Figure the first half of the season is spent tripping over their own feet, and then they either start to click in the 2nd half of the year at best, or a bad coaching staff keeps the team looking like a trainwreck. Pope Flick
You can't pin this just on Vick. The real change was they got rid of that slacker infused coach in Jim Mora. Vets who got sore late in the year got a pass from him. Now, tough patootie, they have to practice as far as Petrino goes. Alge mouthed off because he wanted more of the easy going nature that Mora brought to the table, whereas Blank brought in Petrino by and large to change that culture. in fact, by removing himself from the equation -even inadvertently- Vick did you guys a favor in that he no doubt would have been the biggest cancer in the locker room by being the biggest chaffer at Petrino's no nonsense attitude. Now, whether or nto ti works ad eventually takes is up to debate, but between Hall and Alge it's clear there are some players who want "The Old Way" as if being a biatch about it will bring it back.
