dabuffbills
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3066158 Injured Bills player Kevin Everett has been able to walk to some extent as part of his rehabilitation after suffering a severe spinal cord injury during the team's season opener, sources tell WIVB-TV in Buffalo. Doctors in Houston, where Everett's rehab has been ongoing since mid-September, are optimistic that once Everett completes his rehab he will regain his ability to walk independently, the station reports. Everett, a third-year tight end out of the University of Miami, was injured making a tackle Sept. 9 at home against Denver. Doctors initially said there was little chance Everett would walk again, but that prognosis was revised after Everett showed quick progress in the days after the injury. Everett suffered an incomplete spinal cord injury, meaning there was preservation of some sensation and movement below the injury.
Mystykoekaki
It's very good to hear progress, I'm just hoping and praying each day that he will be alright.
Pope Flick
A lot of the treatments he received were due to the Chris Reeve foundation, apparently. I haven't read much about it but have heard he went through a VERY aggresive treament that included dropping his body temp for some time in order to stop more damage from occuring. Why would Christopher Reeve's charity have to donate money to his recovery? Doesn't the NFL cover that? If not, they freaking should. Glad to hear about Everett's progress. Here's hoping that he's able to walk normally soon.

No - I'm talking about the procedures that have been discovered since the Reeve foundation was formed and pumped money into research. NOT from that foundation directly. We may be talking about the exact same organization...but I've heard that these "treatments" were developed by the Miami Project. The Miami Project was started by Nick Buoniconti after his son suffered a spinal cord injury playing college football. Allegedly, the NFL used to donate tons of money, but then cut back their funding....and the Bills owner (Ralph Wilson) picked up the tab and continued to donate...effectively making it possible for one of his players to walk again. I think I heard this on MNF when Dallas/Buffalo played.
