The 6-1, 234-pound Barlow has not played this season after the Steelers released him in late August. He played last season for the Jets and the first five years of his career with the 49ers. The Patriots have Laurence Maroney, Sammy Morris, Kevin Faulk, Heath Evans and Kyle Eckel on the roster at running back. Maroney has missed the last three games with a groin injury but is nearing a return after he was a game-time decision Sunday in Dallas. Morris sustained a chest injury in Sunday's game and Barlow's visit could be tied to his status.
