What the fudge? 55 yards passing? I mean, come on. And then punting twice late in the 4th quarter down by 10 points? Childress needs to be canned. Terrible play calling, terrible game management. If that team was a little better coached, I honestly think they could have won a few more games. And before you dismiss that as blatant homerism, the games they lost were all close: 1 TD vs. GB, 1 FG @ KC, 1 FG @ DET, and then squandering a lead against a beatable Dallas team.

Now, by no means do I think the Vikes are that good of a football team, with obvious deficiencies at QB, WR, and in the secondary. But with the O-line, the RB's, and a good running defense, I don't think they're terrible.

So, what thinks you of Mr. Childress and his managing of the team?

Can someone please call Mr. Cowher and get him to Minnesota?

I listened to the game yesterday while pheasant hunting. We were cleaning birds when halftime came and I said to my buddy, "Childress will get out coached in the second half." Sure enough. The blocked field goal didn't help, but all in all I really think he got out coached yesterday like he has since he started.

Childress got out coached the entire game. If the defense hadn't have forced two turnovers, the game wouldn't have been as close as it was. I knew Dallas would win as soon as I looked at the time of possession in the first half. Dallas had the ball twice as long as the Vikes in the 1st half even though they had two turnovers.

There are relatively young QBs out there who are guys that could use a second chance in a new city. Kyle Boller. JP Losman. Possibly Pennington next year. Derek Anderson may be looking for a new home. So will Culpepper.

Hopefully the organization will grow some brains and realize that Tarvaris Jackson is the worst QB starting for any team in the league, including the Falcons.

I knew that it was just a matter of time before the girls controlled the game. I didn't have to see the stats to see how the Childress squad would finish.

Essentially, I am ok with the job Childress has done this year - and whatever they can do to continue performing well on draft day is probably a big key in returning to the playoffs sooner than later. Two coaching problems for me yesterday were the stupid (IMO) challenge of the Barber TD - even if overturned they would have had the ball on the inch line and losing a valuable timeout, and not having enough men on the field for the field goal that subsequently was blocked on the next play. Who knows what would have happened had they just gotten out there with the right players and kicked it, but we certainly see what happened afterwards when Dallas had more time to set up the up the middle bull rush. Again, who knows, but that is a coaching problem (not Childress, I wouldn't think, but the special teams coach). I mean if you're not prepared for a failed third down play and a FG on the next play by this time with this offense, that's pretty embarrassing. One glaring problem for me is the lack of screen passes to the backs and no pass attempts to the TE. These would BOTH help a young QB, and make good use of the strengths of the team.

I still like the way Bevel is calling offensive plays (other than what I mentioned above), and defensively they generally do a good job of keeping people out of the end zone. I agree with the assessments above about the bad QB and receivers and working with the talent he has.

One scenario I heard this AM on KFAN was theorizing that McNabb is a free agent next season, and I would presume the Vikes would try to get him on board. He was very close to Childress and although he isn't what he once was, I'd love to see them give him a shot. They have a lot of Cap money to spend - and maybe draft a top QB to watch and learn for a couple years under McNabb. Just a thought.

What is he doing to impress you?

Yes, please, I'd like to know.

Was it the 2 punts late in the 4th quarter when they were down by 2 scores that impressed you?

Or was it calling a pass in the 4th quarter last week when they were trying to run out the clock that eventually cost them the game?

Or is it the fact that he gives Adrian Peterson, by far their best player, only 10-12 carries?

As far as the Peterson thing goes, I assume Childress knows only too well that the Vikings aren't winning diddly this season and therefore he wants to preserve their greatest offensive asset for future seasons. It's the only sane reason I can think of.

What the fudge? We could only pass for 55 yards? And you think we should go for it on 4th down? With all our obvious deficiencies at QB and WR ??

Seriously...both times were 4th and long. If it was 4th and 4 or 5 yards, maybe go for it then, but it was 4th and 12 and 4th and 11.. First time was with 8 mins left and the second time was with 5 mins left. Still time left in the game.... punt and pin them deep in their end of the field and maybe the defense can score :D Or let the defense stop them, get the ball back in good field position.

Go for it at midfield with that much time left and don't make it..even if the defense holds, they punt and we're probably forced to go 90 yards.Or one quick strike from midfield and they score easily and the game is over.

It's called Field Position. It didn't work out, but that doesn't make it a bad decision.

Childress is doing a good job. He knows that the most this team could hope for is a wild card game before they go home. He is trying to save All-Day for when they actually have a quarterback and their receivers come of age a little bit. How much do you really want an offensive guru to experiment with Tarvaris Jackson?? I wouldn't be going for many 4th downs either.

Not running more screens is unconscionable for a coach that most recently was an OC to Westbrook.

Instead of a lot of intermediate pass routes to limit the effectiveness of Dallas' pass rush (which is pretty decent despite their secondary issues), the Vikes ran a lot of deep go routes and long developing VERY shallow cross routes.

Also, AD is a decent receiver out of the backfield but he's no Westbrook that can be split out wide. They tried that about 3 times and it failed miserably.

All that said, I think Childress could call a perfect game and Jackson will still make all the untimely and inaccurate throws.

In my opinion. the start and end of the Vikings problem is their QB. Pure and simple. I've said if before and I will say it again:

Tarvaris Jackson = Quincy Carter (but without the cocaine)

And actually Carter threw a little better. I have no idea what the coaches see in practice that makes them believe that Jackson is their best bet to win games. He has started seven games in the NFL and has averaged 13 of 25 for 140 yards and 0.6 TDs per game. In four starts this year, he has never thrown for more than 166 yards in a game.

In two starts this year, Kelly Holcomb averaged 18 of 34 for 214 yards and one score and that was against KC and GB defenses.

Childress runs an offense that is very sensitive to the QB who must make quick decisions and throw shorter timing routes with great accuracy for it to run to plan. I am at a total loss why they stick with Jackson. I have never seen any reason why Jackson is more than a back-up QB. He even has a great rushing game to support him and a very good offensive line.

Quincy Carter today would be an upgrade over T Jackson. That dude is worse than advertised. I knew he was bad, but yesterday watching him, I knew Dallas would win this game, even if they played subpar which they did on offense. Romo didnt look right after that fumble return for an INT, where he slid to make a tackle I guess. I hope its not a hammy, as those can take longer than a bye week to heel.
