Steven Jackson to play week 8

Oct 23 According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, Jackson will play this weekend.

Advice: Jackson has been limited to three games this season because of a groin injury. He has not played since Sept. 23 when he rushed for 115 yards on 30 carries.

Even if he plays, how much work do you think he'll get?

a lot...if by "work" you mean running from sideline to sideline 7 yards deep in the backfield after his pop warner o-line has once again collapsed and let 8 defenders through.

true...It's probably a bad omen posting this under a thread stating that the Rams just lost another O-lineman

I'd like to start him, but really....I don't know how good he'll be with that OL playing like that..

I think it really depends on what your other options are. I have Henry and KJ in the starting lineup now and am considering adding SJax...we didn't spend a lot of $$ on him in an auction (or draft him with the #2 or #3 overall pick) to keep him on the bench...!

that's the thing, I don't have great RB depth so if Jackson is playing, I'll need to start him

with me it's either SJax or Lynch to go with Peterson....

unless SYoung gets a start this week....but they play GB on monday night...so I don't know about that one either..

I'll figure it out..

I don't get it. They're putting him back in one week before the bye when their season is already over?!? I know you don't just give up and throw in the towel, but why not give him the extra two weeks to heal?!? That's just ridiculous.

yeah, I wouldn't mind that as a Jackson owner...

I'd like to know he can be effective rather than hope he can be...

how much action is he supposed to see?

i would still bet the farm on him being shut down before the season ends. ridiculous that they're letting him play before the bye week. the kid's a competitor, no doubt, but you gotta think of your future, too. he's the cornerstone of that franchise and they're risking him causing further injury in a likely 2-14 season (and two is stretching it)? who knows, maybe doctors are telling him that he's healed and it WON'T get worse...bad move, IMO. let leonard/minor grind it out, draft/sign some O-linemen and start over.

Exactly. That..and with injuries and byes, I HAVE to start Leonard in a league where I do not have Sjax. :D

Unless you guys are medical experts, or have some insight into Jackson's health that the rest of us don't, then making any comments regarding "holding him out an additional two weeks" is ludicrous. The guy was almost ready to play last week, but they wanted an extra week to be sure. They wouldn't risk their franchise RB if he wasn't 100% healthy.

He is now set to go, and facing the Browns at home. It probably won't get much better for Sjax owners than his match-up this week, so start him with confidence.

I am not sure about that...Linehan is coaching for his job right now...from TheHuddle news....

Steven Jackson - RB, St. Louis Rams 10/23/2007

Head coach Scott Linehan sounded optimistic that Jackson would finally return against Cleveland after missing four games with a torn groin muscle. "I think there's a good chance," Linehan told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Monday. "My feeling is that it's not 100 percent, but close. ... It looked like he had the burst he needs to have — and the confidence — based on practicing last week."

I agree that he is probably well enough where its not a huge long term risk, but he probably could use another week, especially since it would net him two more weeks of rest...

But you are correct, none of us have any access to his medical records so we really dont know anything concrete...

I seriously doubt he'd be cleared to play with this injury if he wasn't close enough to turn it loose without risking further injury. Just doesn't make sense, with one week left before the bye. I'm guessing he is close to 100%, and that's probably good enough to get him out there. They probably won't slam him 30 times in the game, but I'd expect him to get plenty of action if he's pronounced good to go by the trainers.

Not many players are 100% at this point in the season anyways.

I'm taking the wait-and-see approach and keeping him reserved this week in favor of AD and Lendale.

I guess you have to look at your other options and decide for yourself.

And as fars as Linehan using him to save his job...well, the Rammies are 0-7....a win at home over the Browns won't have much impact over whether Linehan keeps his job, IMO.

When I looked at Jackson's schedule when I drafted him, I circled the Browns game in STL as one of 5-6 weeks where I couldn't wait to use him. If he can garner 15-20 touches, I think he will more than satisfy his owners with his output.

I"m starting him this week with tight pants over White, Jordan and Watson.

Now. That's the answer to some of you readers who have been asking me when

you're going to get some useful insight into my status in this column. Are

you ready? Sitting down? Because I have some news for everyone:

I'm back. Start me this Sunday.

Knowing this got me thinking of a quote I once heard by a British writer

named John Galsworthy (Oregon State education, baby!): "A man of action

forced into a state of thought is unhappy until he can get out of it."

That's deep, right? Well, it also pretty much sums me up over the past

several weeks. I am a running back. That is what I love to do, and it was

absolutely killing me to just sit there and watch my Rams play without me.

But I'm feeling great, and as long as there are no setbacks this week, I'm

going to be on the field against the Browns.

Every single one of you who cheered me on and told me to get healthy in the

comments section of this column gets a pat on the back from me this week. I

really do appreciate all the unselfishness and support you all offered while

I was sidelined. In fact, I'll have a lot of you in the back of my mind on

the field this week. Not just from a fantasy point of view, but from a fan's

point of view.

Regardless of my status, though, we need to pick up a W in the worst way

this week. Marc Bulger is back, I am back and there are no excuses for

continuing this winless streak. Look, I'm not oblivious; I read the

newspapers and the columns, and I saw that people were expecting me to be

out until Week 10 so I could heal over the bye week, since this was a "lost

season." But, believe me, it's not. We've got nine games left to play, and

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't going to try, with every ounce of willpower

I have, to get us nine wins.

Underneath it all? The fact that I love to play this game. Win or lose,

there's nothing better than getting onto that field and just running around

and living out a childhood dream. Standing on the sidelines was interesting,

don't get me wrong. I got to watch Brian Leonard and a group of guys I

consider to be the most talented in the league play this game at its highest

level, but I was ready to be back on that field the minute I was forced off.

Luckily, I've been treated by the best medical staff in football, and I'm

ready to return and start helping this team. And yours. Hopefully, all my

managers out there in fantasy land held on to me (or made shrewd trades to

get me) and will ride me to their fantasy championship. I realize I have a

lot of running to do to get your teams back to where they need to be.

ESPNers, I can't thank you enough for your continued support. That's why

you're the first to know, directly from my lips, that you'll be seeing me

suit up against Cleveland this week. I'm back!

So I'll see you all Sunday against the Browns. It feels good to be writing

that again. Best of luck to all of you and your fantasy teams, and I hope

you all reap the fruits of my return to the field.

I am starting him. It's either him or the complete bust Ladell Betts.
